About the role
Join Destination Canada as our next Corporate Communications Specialist, where you'll play a pivotal role in our external communications.
In addition to managing our corporate channels (social media, website and e-communications), you will also play a crucial support role in industry communications and building and maintaining relationships with key sector stakeholders The successful applicant will be able to understand multiple stakeholder requirements and articulate plans that creatively support communication goals while anticipating future communication needs. Much of the work involves data-led communications, media outreach, and presentations. While this role does not have direct reports, it will work closely with the Communications Coordinator on a day-to-day basis, providing guidance and direction to support the development and publication of corporate communications content. This role contributes to communication plans for our events, representing Destination Canada at events where media are invited, and liaising with partners on joint partner initiatives and their respective communications.
This role requires strong communication skills and adaptability, with proficiency required in both digital and traditional media platforms. The ideal candidate will have a track record of coordinating various communications assets as part of big projects, managing content for various channels, successful media and industry outreach campaigns, the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Strong public speaking and writing skills are essential, along with creativity and strategic thinking in developing compelling narratives.
Key accountabilities
- Drafts communications products to industry partners, including presentations (with respective speaking notes), and web, print and social copy.
- Coordinates the communication of industry intelligence to industry partners in a timely, relevant, accurate and effective manner.
- Develops and maintains relationships with industry communications professionals and works on joint initiative communications. Leads a monthly industry communications working group.
- Supports on media relations: managing enquiries, preparing news releases, drafting media responses, and ensuring crisis communications plans are current and relevant.
- Supports on communications around Destination Canada events and liaises with press attending these events.
- Manages corporate communications channels, including the corporate website, corporate social media, and the Destination Canada newsletter.
- Creates communications plans that incorporate requirements from multiple stakeholders, support communications goals, and anticipate future needs.
What you need
- Graduation from a recognized university in Communications or Public Relations, or an acceptable and proven combination of education, training and experience
- 5+ years of experience in communications roles
- Experience developing and implementing communications plans and projects
- Experience working with media
- Knowledge of corporate communications and media relations practices, principles and techniques
- Knowledge of stakeholder management and engagement techniques
- Solid understanding of latest AI tools and their application in communications with the ability to leverage AI tools to enhance work output.
- Outstanding writing and editing skills, with the ability to develop creative and compelling narratives.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of the organization and feel comfortable working directly with senior leaders and executives
- Able to multi-task and manage multiple priorities, projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Adaptable and adept at project management and problem solving
- Proactive and self-driven, able to work independently
It would be great if you also had
- Knowledge of federal government and Crown corporation communications practices and context is an asset
- Experience engaging with researchers and data analysts, and/or working with institutions or think tanks in the field of research and analysis is an asset
- French language proficiency is a strong asset
Compensation
Salary range: $72,177 - $90,221
Within the range, the base pay offered is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills and relevant education/experience. Please note starting salaries for new hires typically fall between the minimum and mid-point of the range, to support internal equity and allow room for progression as employees grow and excel in their roles. The range above reflects base pay only and does not include the competitive at-risk pay program and benefits that we offer!

Things you should know
- This role follows a hybrid work arrangement, where work is performed onsite at least 2-3 days per week. Please note the work arrangement is subject to change
- This is a three-year term role, with a fixed end date

- Occasional travel could be required
- This role is open to candidates based in Vancouver or Ottawa. Candidates located in Vancouver or Ottawa will follow a hybrid work model.
