Chief BSA/AML & Sanctions Officer
The Chief BSA/AML & Sanctions Officer is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining a rigorous and efficient Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) and Sanctions compliance program that aligns with all relevant regulatory requirements and supports the organization's strategy. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidance issued by the OCC, Federal Reserve, FinCen , OFAC and other relevant authorities. This role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to align the financial crimes compliance (FCC) program with business growth objectives, a hands-on leader who balances regulatory expectations with pragmatic risk management and an executive level management style with strong integrity, sound judgment and the ability to foster a culture of compliance. associates.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Leads the FCC department and ensures organization functions are in compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, laws, regulations, and guidance.
- Provides guidance and expertise to other Executives on matters relating to compliance that impact their function.
- Develops, implements and maintains the organization's enterprise-wide BSA/AML & Sanctions compliance program (FCC program). Ensures FCC program effectiveness in preventing, detecting and reporting suspicious activity.
- Serves as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors and law enforcement on BSA/AML & Sanctions matter and reports regularly to the Board of Directors and executive management on the FCC program performance, key risks and emerging trends.
- Chairs the BSA Committee (BSAC) and ensures effective escalation of issues through the appropriate risk governance channels.
- Oversees enterprise-wide risk assessments for BSA/AML, OFAC and customer risk and oversees / monitors processes for customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity investigations and SAR/CTR filings.
- Ensures timely and accurate OFAC and sanctions screenings and reviews and updates as needed and maintains BSA/AML and OFAC policies, procedures and standards in coordination with business and legal executives.
- Designs and delivers ongoing training for employees, management and the Board.
- Partners with Operations, IT and Risk teams to optimize AML systems and tools to ensure data integrity and evaluates and implements technology solutions to enhance monitoring and reporting capabilities.
- Reviews corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
