Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Registered Nurse to join on a travel contract in Wausau, WI. The CVICU Nurse will provide advanced care to critically ill patients recovering from cardiovascular surgeries, heart failure, myocardial infarctions, and other cardiac conditions requiring intensive monitoring. The ideal candidate is highly skilled, detail-oriented, and able to perform effectively in high-acuity settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct and continuous care to critically ill cardiovascular patients.
- Monitor and manage hemodynamic parameters, ventilator settings, and invasive lines.
- Administer IV medications, cardiac drips, and emergency interventions safely.
- Assist with pre- and post-operative care for open-heart and other cardiac surgical patients.
- Collaborate with cardiologists, surgeons, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure coordinated care.
- Perform detailed patient assessments and respond rapidly to condition changes.
- Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, treatments, and recovery expectations.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control practices.
Qualifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin (or compact license).
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
- Minimum of 1 year of recent CVICU or ICU nursing experience.
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); CCRN or CSC certification preferred.
- COVID-19 vaccine and recent tuberculosis test.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure, high-acuity environments.
