Assists with monitoring of roadways including detecting, confirming, updating and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents, congestion and travel time imbalances. Assists in managing operations in accordance with stated requirements, protocols and policies. Ensures the goals and strategies of the operations plan are achieved. Monitors operators on assigned shift. Assists in the management of all TMC staff 24/7/365.
What You’ll Do:
- Leads and/or operates various computer-based traffic management systems to manage traffic and incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions. Leads and/or monitors roadways via CCTV surveillance cameras and detection systems. Leads and/or monitors all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the system.
- Maintains advanced knowledge on the operation of all traffic equipment, computers and software associated with the traffic systems.
- Utilizes traffic equipment for incident management and for the improvement of travel time, safety, and quality of life of the traveling motorists and toll customers.
- Continually checks the accuracy and validity of the messages displayed on all DMS, HAR, and 511 messages broadcasted on a particular system
- Ensures entry incident information into computer systems using traffic software.
- Maintains expert knowledge with the roadways and understands the purpose and location of each traffic device (i.e. detector stations, CCTV, and 511).
- Alerts operator staff to new and existing memos / information / changes.
- Uses SOP/SOG to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents.
- Dispatches Road Rangers and assists Road Rangers with other tasks, such as phone calls, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
- Associate's degree and 2 years experience in a directly comparable role and 3 years supervisory experience directing and leading teams. or
- In lieu of education, 4 years experience in a directly comparable role and 3 years supervisory experience directing and leading teams
- Excellent working knowledge of traffic management systems
What We Prefer:
- Experience operating computers, working in fast paced / quickly changing work environment.
- Good communication skills – oral, writing, reports, clear communication over radio.
