About the Department

General Description:
Position is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction at a large public high school. Responsibilities may include supervising teams at varsity and junior varsity levels.
Essential Duties:
- Under the direction of the Head Coach, assist with planning practices, running practices, and coaching during practices and games.
- Communicate expectations to parents and players.
- Ensure there are always two coaches at the field.
- Attend all practices and games.
- Arrange for practices/game coverage if you are unable to attend.
- Start and end practices on time. You and other designated coach are always the last to leave the field.
- Adhere to school board requirements and recommendations.
- Attend all coaches’ meetings.
- Assist with player selection.
- Supervision of team during all activities.
Position Duties
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge and advanced strategies of applicable sport. Knowledge of VHSL rules. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to mentor and develop players in a positive way. Desire to teach and improve skill development. Must pass criminal record check.
Education and Experience:
Required: Previous experience as a player and/or coaching at the high school level.
Preferred: Valid teaching license in a high school curriculum area.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Work Schedule: Fall Season September 18, 2025 thru November 12,2025
Pay Grade: .5 of Track 6

Physical Conditions:
Requires moderate physical activity. Requires standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Work is regularly performed outside. Potential for exposure to; adverse weather conditions, exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases, possible interactions with disruptive and/or unruly individuals. Work may involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noise. Involves minimum exposure to physical risk while operating field maintenance equipment.
