QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Typing, word processing or data entry skills at 50 wpm; Excellent spelling, math and problem-solving skills; Filing skills; telephone skills; data entry: Ability to work independently and with co-workers as well as communicate effectively with patients and professionals; and Ability to prioritize, organize, and attend to detail.
Preferred: Medical terminology; Medical or Clerical experience
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Medium physical demand level capabilities required. Must be able to work independently as well as with coworkers, other staff professionals, guild volunteers, patients and visitors. Must be able to prioritize work, organize time efficiently and attend to detail. Must be able to sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time. Have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, push wheelchair with up to 250 pounds, and assist a patient in and out of a chair, wheelchair, and ride in an elevator. Strong visual and auditory abilities, along with clear and legible handwriting, to support accurate communication and task performance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Obtaining and Verifying Insurance Information: Obtaining and accurately verifying insurance and billing information for all types of insurance.
- Auditing for Completeness and Accuracy: Self-auditing and reviewing charts/registrations daily for completeness maintaining high accuracy levels (>95%).
- Preparation of Patient Identification and Paperwork: Preparing identification bracelets and paperwork used during patient care and routing it appropriately in a timely manner.
- Effective Communication: Communicating effectively in person and on the telephone with various personality types.
- Stress and Decision Handling: Handling stress, working under pressure, and making decisions effectively.
- Training and Orientation of New Staff: Assisting in the training and orientation of new employees within the department.
- Participation in Meetings and Organizational Goals: Participating in departmental meetings, discussions, and supporting the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
- Competence in Core Job Functions: Demonstrating competence in job responsibilities through proficiency testing, skill demonstration, and adherence to organizational standards.
- Staff and Patient Interaction: Addressing patient, family, and visitor needs while ensuring resolution of concerns by contacting the appropriate department.
- Time Management and Organization: Prioritizing work, organizing tasks efficiently, and attending to detail.
- Department Specific Duties
- Assists the Emergency Department staff when needed: Assists with patient wayfinding and supports Nursing staff both in the patient rooms and the lobby
- Assists the Communication Center staff when needed: Performs routine, emergency and code paging according to established procedures. Monitors hospital environmental system alarms and security systems and notifies responsible department for corrective action.
