Job Scope
Supports the design, implementation, and administration of enterprise infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud environments. Responsible for a mix of Microsoft-based systems, virtual infrastructure, AWS-hosted services, backups, monitoring, and automation—ensuring stable, secure, and efficient operations.
As the Credit Union continues to modernize its technology platforms, this role helps bridge traditional systems administration with cloud-native operations, contributing to infrastructure solutions that enhance reliability, compliance, and service delivery.
Essential Functions
- Support and maintain Windows Server environments (2016-2022), including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Manage Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Intune endpoint management.
- Maintain Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and Entra Connect to support secure hybrid identity and authentication management.
- Provision and manage AWS services including EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and VPCs, following best practices for cost, security, and resilience.
- Automate infrastructure deployment and management using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and PowerShell scripting.
- Support hybrid workloads and infrastructure-as-code practices aligned with DevOps principles.
- Administer VMware and/or Hyper-V environments, ensuring effective capacity planning, resource optimization, and snapshot management.
- Perform lifecycle support for physical servers, SAN/NAS storage, UPS systems, and datacenter equipment.
- Coordinate server patching, hardware upgrades, and system migrations with minimal business disruption.
- Use Datadog to monitor system and application performance, configure dashboards and alerts, and conduct performance tuning.
- Ensure infrastructure complies with internal security policies and external regulatory standards (FFIEC, NCUA, GLBA).
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts, access control management, and audit response processes.
- Administer backup and recovery solutions using Rubrik and AWS native services such as AWS Backup and EBS/RDS Snapshots.
- Test, document, and support business continuity plans for both on-prem and cloud-hosted workloads.
- Serve as Tier-3 support for infrastructure and cloud-related issues escalated by the help desk or project teams.
- Collaborate with engineers, application owners, and vendors to implement secure, scalable infrastructure solutions.
- Contribute to system documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams to support operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
- Understands system interdependencies and how infrastructure impacts broader IT services and business outcomes; proactively identifies and addresses potential risks or gaps.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Experience and Education
- Minimum of five years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or cloud operations.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Windows Server (2016-2022), including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Intune
- Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and Entra Connect for hybrid identity management
- VMware or Hyper-V virtualization platforms
- AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and RDS
- Infrastructure monitoring and observability using Datadog
- Backup platforms including Rubrik and AWS native backup tools (e.g., AWS Backup, EBS/RDS Snapshots)
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Preferred certifications:
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect—Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator or Azure Administrator
- VMware VCP
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent
Knowledge
- Demonstrates applied knowledge of enterprise infrastructure architectures, including hybrid on-premises and cloud systems, virtualization, and core Microsoft technologies.
- Applies expertise in cloud governance, cost optimization, automation, and DevOps principles to improve infrastructure efficiency and resilience.
- Integrates IT regulatory compliance standards (e.g., NCUA, FFIEC, GLBA) into infrastructure design and operations to support security, audit readiness, and risk mitigation.
- Understands system interdependencies and how infrastructure impacts broader IT services and business outcomes; proactively identifies and addresses potential risks or gaps.
Skills/Abilities
- Analyzes complex infrastructure issues using sound troubleshooting techniques across diverse systems and cloud platforms; anticipates potential impacts and implements effective solutions.
- Proficient in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to improve consistency, accuracy, and efficiency of system management.
- Balances operational stability, security, and innovation by applying practical judgment and adhering to regulatory and organizational policies.
- Communicates technical information clearly and effectively to varied audiences—including peers, stakeholders, and non-technical partners—to build understanding and support.
- Documents systems, processes, and incident responses thoroughly to ensure knowledge sharing and compliance with audit requirements.
- Works independently on most assignments with minimal oversight; proactively identifies obstacles and initiates corrective action or escalation when appropriate.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Participates in a rotating on-call schedule to provide critical system support outside of regular business hours.
- Supports a hybrid work environment, with the flexibility to work remotely or on-site as operational needs and system coverage require.
- Requires occasional afterhours and weekend work to perform changes or maintenance on production systems.
- Must be able to respond promptly to urgent infrastructure issues that may arise during non-standard hours.
- Typical work involves sitting at a workstation for extended periods, with occasional lifting or moving of equipment related to physical server and data center maintenance.
