Position Summary
The Senior Loan Officer (SLO) serves as the primary company representative to the real estate community, tasked with building and maintaining referral relationships among professionals such as realtors, builders, and developers. The SLO manages the entire loan process, acting as a key liaison between the borrower and internal teams including processing, underwriting, and closing, to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Essential Responsibilities
- Establish and nurture client referral relationships with realtors, builders, developers, and community agencies.
- Conduct regular outside sales calls to prospective and existing clients to generate new business and retain existing relationships. Share rates and program updates with clients weekly.
- Train and mentor Loan Officer Assistants on sales techniques, ensuring adherence to company standards.
- Oversee the entire loan lifecycle, from application to closing, including counseling and prequalifying potential homebuyers, taking complete and accurate applications, gathering required documentation, monitoring loan progress, communicating status updates, and collecting post-closing documentation.
- Ensure all loan applications meet company policies and guidelines.
- Stay updated on trends in the local real estate market, competitive landscape, and evolving rules and regulations related to private and government-insured mortgages.
- Maintain a polished and professional image consistent with company policies and values.
- Handle personal information with the utmost confidentiality and security, both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must meet all qualifications and standards required for Loan Officer Licensure under the SAFE Act.
- Exceptional ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, with the capability to generate independent leads for new business.
- Strong judgment and ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Highly organized, with the ability to retrieve information and documents efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiar with mortgage industry software.
- Enthusiastic and driven to achieve personal and company goals.
Requirements
Experience and Training
- High school diploma required; some college preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years loan officer experience or proven success in sales role with transferable mortgage origination skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of standard loan products and underwriting guidelines.
- Current registration, licensing, and training obligations under the SAFE Act and relevant laws.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands:
- Mostly sedentary, however, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; use handheld phone; reach with hands and arms; stoop; talk and hear.
- Extensive reading and computer use is expected to be more than 50% of the time. Receiving and expressing detailed information verbally, in person and by telephone is essential. Must be able to verbally communicate effectively with others.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
- Regular attendance is necessary and essential to this position.
