Hours: Coaches - 3 to 8 hours per week
Officials/Score Keepers - 5 to 10 hours per week
Status: Temporary Part-Time, No benefits. Applicants will be screened according to experience relevant to this position. Those most qualified will be invited to an individual or small group interview.
The Program: The 6-week Junior Basketball Program begins the week of January 19, 2026, and teaches basic basketball fundamentals and skills. Boys and Girls 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade teams are offered. Practices for all divisions are held at neighborhood schools twice a week, either, Monday/ Wednesday or Tuesday/ Thursday, beginning between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm. All games are held on Saturdays at the Community Gyms at Davis High School. The program is designed to be a safe, positive learning experience with an emphasis on having fun while developing skills, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Mandatory Trainings Tentatively Scheduled for: January 5-7, 2026
Position Description: Under the direction of the Community Services Supervisor and the Program Coordinator assigned to the Junior Basketball program, Junior Basketball Coaches are responsible for organizing, planning and coaching all practices and games for their teams. Junior Basketball Officials are required to work on Saturdays, and are responsible for officiating junior basketball games along with having an understanding and concern for safety in regard to participants, facilities, equipment, rules and procedures. All coaches, officials, and scorekeepers will attend a mandatory training the week of January 5, 2026.

- Maintain control of games when coaching or officiating.
- Uses appropriate disciplinary techniques with participants.
- Promote good sportsmanship at all times.
- Energetic and able to lead and motivate children.
- Communicate effectively with supervisor, staff, officials, parents and participants.
- Perform assigned duties independently and/or with minimal supervision.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certified in CPR and Standard First Aid prior to the start of the season.
- Must be at least 15 years of age (16 to coach).
- Must possess a working knowledge of basketball rules, regulations, and fundamentals.
- Prior experience is preferred.
- Must be available for 6 straight weeks (and Saturdays) in January, February and March.
Physical/Sensory Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is an active position requiring the ability to move about on foot, walking and running with frequent starts and stops; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with children and other staff; visual acuity to oversee projects and make observations. Work is done both indoors and outdoors.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; run; use hand, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Staff are required to follow current health guidelines and requirements to keep all staff and participants safe. Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to varying temperatures, sun, noise, dust, pollens and slip hazards when near water. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Must be able to complete additional trainings, including but not limited to: Concussion Training, Blood Borne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
