Title: Security Officer – Part-Time, Seasonal
Compensation: $18-24/per hour based on experience.
Duration: October – January
Position Summary:
Security Officers at Loveland Living Planet Aquarium are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for guests, staff, and volunteers. For this part-time, seasonal role, you’ll provide coverage during our enchanting Lantern Festival (October – January), a large-scale outdoor winter event. This role requires professionalism, attentiveness, and a guest-focused mindset to ensure that every visitor enjoys a magical and safe experience.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Must speak fluent English. (Additional languages a plus).
- Prior security, EMT and/or law enforcement experience working in a fast-paced environment where the focus is on quality customer service and guest experience.
- Previous customer service experience also a plus.
- Valid CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
Critical Skills/Competencies
- Ability to interact positively with guests in all types of situations, including de-escalating conflicts.
- Working knowledge of security resources including radios, telephones, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems.
- Strong multitasking ability—completing logs, forms, lost and found, and assisting with deliveries or assignments.
- Dependability and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during the Lantern Festival (5 PM - 11 PM).
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure under pressure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to medical emergencies, providing an appropriate level of First Aid care and CPR response within acquired certified scope of medical training.
- Answer guest questions and offer Aquarium operating information.
- Provide crowd management/control when necessary.
- Assume responsibility for any issues that pose a safety hazard to employees or guests and mitigate those issues as soon as practical.
- Complete all departmental paperwork including daily activity log and incident reports.
- Respond to and defuse any potentially hostile situations.
- Attend ongoing training for security guard and related subjects to enhance qualifications as a Security Officer.
- Operate CCTV surveillance system and conduct regular foot patrols of Aquarium property.
- Respond to assignments such as VIP and cash escorts.
- Additional responsibilities may be delegated due to the culture of the aquarium.

Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time.

- Full functional range of motion in all major body joints from reaching, twisting, bending, simple and power gripping, fine and gross motor skills.

Work Environment
- Primarily outdoors during winter evenings; exposure to cold temperatures, wet or uneven surfaces, and varying noise levels.
- Exposure to confined spaces.
- Seasonal hours: 5 PM - 11 PM, October - January.
- Coats, beanies, and gloves are provided to help staff stay warm during outdoor assignments.
Note: This is a seasonal, part-time position in support of Lantern Festival. Duties may shift depending on event needs. The Aquarium reserves the right to assign or reassign responsibilities as necessary.
