JOB SUMMARY:
The Simulation Technologist works together with faculty educators to create lifelike immersive simulation experiences. The Simulation Technologist will help to coordinate, operate and maintain the technology within the simulation labs and assist with simulation operations.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $80,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

REPORTS TO: Director of CESiL

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Collaborate with Adelphi University IT department to deliver seamless integration of simulation with the Adelphi University software systems and the simulation lab.  Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues with IT is needed.

  2. Helps to conduct simulation activities under the supervision of faculty educators by helping to plan and coordinate simulation activities with faculty including available resources and technologies such as moulage, programming, props, wardrobe, set design etc.

  3. Transforms case scenarios into realistic simulated learning environments including: set -up, operate and breakdown of equipment used in clinical simulation experiences including programming, testing and running scenarios with instructors and facilitators.

  4. Coordinate and schedule simulation/debrief sessions integrating any and all technical services within the simulation suite.

  5. Provide faculty in-service training on the use of simulation related hardware and software technologies.

  6. Provides routine simulator, task trainer, computer, and audio/video equipment maintenance including the set-up, programming, operation, and monitoring of simulation software, computers and simulators. Creates simulator checklists and preventative logs and plans for simulation equipment.

  7. Creates new and innovative solutions to improve on the realism of the simulation activities including digital videos, cameras, projectors, audio/video mixing, editing software and graphic design software.

  8. Maintain knowledge and promote best practice of simulation based education.

  9. Work with simulation system vendor to diagnose and resolve all simulation system issues.

  10. Coordinate yearly maintenance, repair and necessary replacement of simulation equipment and multimedia peripherals with manufacturer as needed.

  11. Troubleshoot technical problems that arise with simulators, software, hardware and A/V. technologies. Create troubleshooting documentation through the AU Work Order system.

  12. Install software upgrades and components as directed by manufacturers to maintain equipment functionality.

  13. Provide tours of the simulation lab and help cover open house events by providing technological demonstrations of equipment.

  14. Recommend, plan and develop innovative ways to maximize efficiency and improve quality of simulation based education and operations within the learning laboratories.

  15. Provide technical level 1 and level 2 support for the simulation suite and classroom.

  16. Perform system administration functions such as backup and restores.

  17. Assist with data entry management.

  18. Work with simulation team to maintain a clean, safe and optimal learning environment.

  19. Create and maintain operating procedures documentation.

  20. Will work on the Manhattan and Garden City Campuses.

  21. Perform other job related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)

  1. Experience in computer simulation or technical services.

  2. Basic understanding and troubleshooting skills for tcp/ip networking.

  3. Experience with operating and troubleshooting Windows networks and server hardware.

  4. Knowledge of A/V production including recording, distribution, editing, archiving and troubleshooting network and A/V cabling issues.

  5. Good understanding of video/audio file formats (MPEG-4, H.264, AVI, MOV).

  6. Maintain current skills and knowledge relating to existing and newly acquired technology.

  7. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  8. Proficiency or willingness to learn medical terminology.

  9. Ability to troubleshoot technical problems.

  10. Ability to work effectively with diverse group of people.

  11. Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a health science field, information technology or related curriculum is required.

  2. Minimum of two years of relevant experience in simulation labs is required.

  3. Certification in healthcare simulation is preferred.
