Our facility in Maize, Kansas, is home to approximately 140 employees who make the iconic green one pound, fully recyclable propane cylinders that are a hallmark of American outdoor adventures. Worthington Enterprises acquired this location from The Coleman Company in 2011.

The Quality/Process Engineer at Worthington Enterprises Maize, KS facility will split responsibilities between quality engineering (70%) and process engineering (30%). This hybrid role ensures compliance with industry and customer standards while driving improvements in product quality, production processes, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Quality Engineering (70%)

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control systems to ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards (ISO/IATF, ISO, AS9100, DOT ), and Worthington Enterprises’ policies.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for internal, supplier, and customer issues.
  • Coordinate and perform regular audits (internal and supplier) to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and maintain quality documentation, including PPAPs, PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, equipment capability studies and inspection standards.
  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Analyze quality performance metrics such as scrap rates, defect trends, identify inefficiencies and customer complaints to identify improvement opportunities to reduce waste, improve cycle time, and increase productivity.
  • Partner with customers and suppliers to address quality concerns and ensure product reliability.
  • Support training of production staff in quality standards and problem-solving methodologies.

Process Engineering (30%)

  • Assess current manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improvement in safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement tools to reduce waste and variation.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance to troubleshoot and optimize processes, equipment, and tooling.
  • Support new product launches and engineering changes by validating process capability and ensuring smooth integration into production.
  • Monitor and report on key process indicators (throughput, cycle time, first-pass yield, etc.) and implement improvement actions.
  • Collaborate on capital projects and process upgrades to enhance overall manufacturing performance.
  • Other duties as assigned
 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field).
  • 3+ years of experience in quality or process engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent).
  • Experience with quality engineering tools (FMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA, 8D, control plans).
  • Proficiency with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across internal teams functions and with external partners.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities in a hybrid role.
