TITLE: *Internal Only* After School Program Career Pathways Instructor (Two Positions)
LOCATION: Tiger Academy
SUPERVISOR: This position reports to the Executive Director of Secondary Multlingual & Alternative Education Programs
JOB SUMMARY: The After School Program Caereer Pathways Instructors will provide an after school Career Pathways program for students who attend Tiger Academy during the school day as well as partnering with Urbana High School staff and students. This program will focus on career preparation in the following areas: Engineering, Plumbing/Pipefitting, Roofing, Concrete, Painting, Ironworking, Carpentry, Electrician, Automotive Tech, Music Engineering, Video Production, Hair Braiding , Cosmetology, Nails, Fashion, Education, and Clerical work. The short term goal is to introduce high school students to a variety of career pathways and reengage them in school with purpose, as well as foster a long term plan for students beyond high school by securing a career pathway that can benefit the City of Urbana, local businesses and organizations, and our young people with an increase in graduates ready for the work force.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In order to be successful in this position, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Introduce students to career options by USD116 staff, guest speakers/presenters/partners from those career areas, work site visits, as well as incorporating opportunities to job shadow work site mentors.
- Prepare lesson plans and implement them to provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists studentswith the career expoloration goals.
- Create a program environment that is welcoming to all students and supports the school mission statement.
- Develop and implement general classroom procedures, goals, schedules, and behavior expectations for students.
- Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the building that expose the students to a variety of experiences regarding career pathways.
- Take student attendance and submit the records at the assigned time.
- Initiate and provide support with students as needed.
- Maintain a positive relationship with the students attending the Program.
- Ask for guidance and assistance from the Director when unable to assist a student.
- Monitor and supervise the student’s behavior.
- Follow and enforce all program and school rules. Report infractions to the Director.
- Arrive on time for after school program and stay until the end of the session.
- Actively participate in the program and complete all assigned tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma, College degree preferred, Teacher License Desired
EXPERIENCE
- Experience working with students in after school programs desired
- Experience working with alternative education programming desired
- Experience working with commuinty partners desired
Other skills and abilities:
- Ability to assess children and knowledge of childhood development.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively on a collaborative team.
- Ability to effectively work with students with a history of behavioral, social/emotional and/or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and responses.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- This is an hourly position and is contingent on the continuation of grant funding.
- Pay rate is TBD.
- This After School Program hours are generally building dismissal thru 5:30 for afternoon sessions, twice per week for up to 20 weeks
- This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit
- This is not an administrative position.
- This is an internal only position
