The Vision Lab, housed within the Psychology Department in the College of Liberal Arts, is seeking a Lab Manager reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, Omer Daglar Tanrikulu. The lab manager will oversee the daily operations of a research lab specializing in visual perception and cognitive science. Key responsibilities include coordinating and supporting experiments, managing lab logistics and resources, supervising and mentoring undergraduate research assistants, and assisting with administrative and compliance tasks. This position also offers the opportunity to lead an independent research project, providing valuable experience in both laboratory management and scientific inquiry.

Duties/Responsibilities

Lab Operations and Administration (40%)

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lab, including scheduling, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, safety protocols, and research regulations.

  • Manage lab documentation, including protocols, data storage, and reporting requirements.

  • Coordinate purchases and budget tracking in collaboration with the principal investigator.

Research Support and Coordination (35%)

  • Assist with the design, preparation, and execution of research experiments.

  • Recruit, train, and mentor undergraduate research assistants.

  • Maintain high standards for data collection, organization, and quality control.

  • Collaborate with lab members to support ongoing research projects and grant activities.

Independent Research Project (20%)

  • Develop and lead an independent research project aligned with the lab’s goals.

  • Conduct data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results.

  • Present findings in lab meetings and contribute to publications or conference presentations.

Outreach and Professional Development (5%)

  • Participate in lab meetings, seminars, and professional development activities.

  • Assist with outreach efforts to promote the lab’s work and recruit future research assistants.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology or a closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of research methods and principles in psychology or cognitive science.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to coordinate multiple projects and responsibilities.

  • Ability to train, supervise, and mentor undergraduate research assistants.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration within the lab and with external partners.

  • Proficiency with research software and tools for data collection, management, and analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, MATLAB, PsychoPy, VR/eye-tracking systems).

  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of data integrity and compliance with institutional and ethical guidelines.

  • Problem-solving skills and adaptability to evolving research needs and priorities.
