Mandatory internship in Software Engineering (m/f/d) presso MKS Instruments

As a mandatory intern in Software Engineering, you will partner with STM Materials Solutions Division to develop a software tool / Web application for physical data evaluation. Support the modernization of a key internal software tool for evaluation material science data. The main focus of the six month long internship will be migrating a back-end program from C++ to Python and designing a graphical user interface (GUI) to enhance accessibility and usability.

Your Responsibilities

• Analyze and refactor existing C++ code into Python, ensuring functional parity

• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to understand system requirements

• Develop and test a user-friendly front end (desktop GUI or web application)

• Optimize back end logic for performance and scalability

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code

• Participate in regular code reviews and project meetings

Skills You Bring

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program with a focus in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

• Proficiency in Python and C++; knowledge of software design principles

• Experience or strong interest in GUI frameworks (e.g., PyQt, Tkinter) or web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, etc.)

• Familiarity with version control systems (preferably Git)

• Problem-solving mindset, strong communication skills, and a collaborative spirit
