Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.  

 

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security. 

 

We currently have an opportunity for a Project Support in Canberra to work on Space projects.   

 

What You’ll Do 
 

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including: 
 

  • Project Planning and Execution: Manage aspects of the JP9102 project under the direction of the Project Director, including scheduling, estimating, and risk assessment activities. 

  • Documentation and Governance: Prepare and review project management office plans, Gate 2 documentation, and procurement artefacts such as ODIA plans and evaluation reports. 

  • Tender Evaluation and Advice: Participate in Tender Evaluation Working Groups (TEWGs), providing expert advice to validate tender responses and support contract negotiations. 

  • Technical and Interface Development: Develop and update technical documentation, including system specifications and interface management plans for Defence networks. 

  • Safety, Security, and Logistics Support: Contribute to safety and security program planning, assess FIC elements and dependencies, and develop logistics support documentation for full lifecycle capability. 


What You’ll Bring  
 

  • Project Management Expertise: Demonstrated experience in CASG pre-Gate 1/Gate 2 projects, Defence Capability Life Cycle, and development of Gate 2 documentation including PES and IPMP. 

  • Tender and Contracting Knowledge: Proven experience with ASDEFCON Complex suite, including tender development, evaluation, offer definition, and contract negotiations for large-scale Defence projects. 

  • Systems/SATCOM Engineering Capability: Strong background in communications, systems, and software engineering, with desirable experience in SATCOM systems and spacecraft procurement support. 

  • Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Competency: Formal logistics qualifications and Defence acquisition experience, including ILS planning, contractor program management, and technical regulation awareness. 

  • Commercial and Pricing Acumen: Skilled in Defence cost modelling and commercial drafting, with attention to detail and ability to provide well-researched recommendations aligned with Defence contracting standards. 

 

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
