The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Environmental Design (OED) is currently recruiting for a Team Leader (Landscape Architect V) in Baltimore City. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below.  This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Job Duties
:  This position will supervise and manage the technical and personnel activities of a team of professional landscape architects, in-house consultants, CADD technicians, and entry level and intern landscape architects who manage area wide landscape projects, as well as support upper-level positions and other customers.  The position applies landscape architecture theories, principles, and standards to provide guidance and quality assurance to team members, consultants, and other resources who manage projects of all levels of complexity from small, in-house landscape plantings to highly detailed, complex, transportation related projects and processes.  For entry level and intern landscape architects, this position also provides guidance not only for technical, project related matters, but also for professional career development and educational concerns.

Position Duties

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree or first professional master's degree in landscape architecture from a landscape architectural program accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board.

Experience: Six (6) years of experience in landscape architectural design work.

Selective Qualification:  Three (3) years of experience in team management, directing, and supervising work of landscape architects and/or landscape designers.

*This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification.   Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or abilities).  No substitutions are allowed for a selective qualification. 

Notes:
1.  Possession of a master's degree in landscape architecture, with the exception of the first professional master's degree, may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

2.  Applicants currently licensed as a Landscape Architect in the State of Maryland are considered to have met the education requirements.  

*A first professional degree is an academic degree designed to prepare the holder for a specific profession by emphasizing practical skills rather than theory and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have experience in one or more of the following: 

  • Experience in budget management, contract document development, and contract management related to landscape projects
  • Experience in tree care and arboricultural practices
  • Knowledge of plant material suitable for Maryland
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Bentley MicroStation CADD, ArcGIS programs and other relevant computer software programs

Minimum Qualifications

1.  Candidates must possess a  driver's license valid in the State of Maryland.  

2.  Candidates must possess a current license as a landscape architect from the Board of Examiners of Landscape Architects.  Candidates may possess a license from another state but will be required to obtain a reciprocal license in the State of Maryland within the probation period.
