Based onsite at our Northlake, IL facility, this position is responsible for the physical installation, repair, and decommissioning of hardware, as well as ensuring operational excellence across systems and environments. This Engineer 2, Engineer Operations works onsite in our Northlake, IL Data Center; the hours are Monday-Thursday 9am-8pm. This position is ineligible for visa sponsorship. To be considered for this role, you must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment now or in the future.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform physical installation, racking, stacking, and decommissioning of servers, network gear, and related hardware.
- Troubleshoot and repair incidents involving server and network equipment.
- Maintain and manage inventory of copper, fiber, and power cabling, as well as all deployed equipment using dcTrack.
- Label and organize equipment in compliance with NDCS standards.
- Monitor and maintain security protocols within the data center and raised floor environments.
- Interface with vendors for equipment installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Lead and mentor team members on deployment methodologies and technical best practices.
- Support project planning including risk assessment, quality control, and scope management.
- Document and streamline methods and procedures for equipment deployment.
- Provide Tier I IT support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Travel occasionally as required.
Required Experience
- 3+ years of experience deploying and installing switches, routers, and servers.
- 3+ years of experience in High-Speed Data (HSD), Voice, IP, and Data Networking.
- Strong understanding of AC/DC power systems, including PDU, ATS, and UPS configurations.
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems and thermal architecture in data centers.
- Proven ability to plan installations, forecast infrastructure needs, and manage inventory.
- Familiarity with server and networking hardware across Unix, Linux, and Windows platforms.
- Experience documenting policies, procedures, and technical workflows.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced understanding of IP protocols (ARP, IP, TCP, DNS, SNMP).
- Experience with data center planning and engineering.
- Demonstrated success in adapting to change and making sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to build effective relationships across teams.
- Personal qualities including integrity, accountability, and enthusiasm for hands-on technical work.

Primary Location Pay Range: $70,960.68 - $106,441.02Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
