Position Summary

This is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy.  Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision.  Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work. 

Responsibilities

• Provides subject matter technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.

• Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities,

• Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches,

• Conducts engineering and related studies,

• Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance,

• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,

• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,

• Maintains accurate records and files,

• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally, and

• Coaches and mentors other Engineering Technologists

Required Qualifications

Engineering Technologist III

• Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) AND three (3) years minimum of related experience, OR

• Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) AND five (5) years minimum of related experience, OR

• In lieu of degree and experience listed above, high school diploma/GED AND nine (9) years minimum of related experience

SR Engineering Technologist

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) AND six (6) years minimum relevant industry, OR

• Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) AND eight (8) years minimum relevant experience, OR

• In lieu of degree and experience listed above, High School/GED AND 12+ years equivalent experience

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Engineering Technology

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Good written and oral communication skills

• Experience in the utility industry

• Proficient in applying principles of project management

Mobility Classification

• Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
