We are currently looking for a Junior Environmental Scientist/Engineer to join our team in our Fredericton office.
Main responsibilities
- Environmental Site Work
- Conduct Phase I to Phase III Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs);
- Coordinate and execute field activities including sampling of groundwater, soil, soil vapour, sediment, and surface water;
- Perform oversight of excavation and drilling operations;
- Collect samples and conduct testing in accordance with defined processes to support regulatory compliance;
- Conduct routine tasks related to environmental impact assessments using specified systems and protocols.
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
- Implement and enforce health and safety plans on construction sites;
- Instruct teams in safe working methods and identify risky behaviors, escalating serious issues as needed;
- Follow organizational HSE policies and procedures to mitigate risks to self and others.
- Project and Client Coordination
- Manage project tasks, oversee fieldwork execution, and report progress to the project team;
- Support Project Managers on various environmental and industrial initiatives;
- Help senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships using relevant systems;
- Interact with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Reporting and Documentation
- Assist with report writing and proposal development for submission to provincial and federal regulatory authorities;
- Organize and prepare complex documents using standard office software;
- Gather and summarize data for special reports and bid solicitation documents (RFPs, RFTs).
- Professional Development and Collaboration
- Participate in formal and informal training, coaching, and development planning activities;
- Stay current with relevant technologies, regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing education and media;
- Engage in communities of practice to build expertise in defined areas.
- Environmental Risk and Data Management
- Contribute to environmental risk management processes aligned with regulations and sustainability goals;
- Produce accurate reports by collecting and analyzing data from standard sources.
- Team Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise site personnel and subcontractors to ensure compliance and efficiency;
- Facilitate training and mentoring of junior staff in field techniques and reporting standards.
Training and skills
- B.Eng. in Civil or Environmental Disciplines, or B.Sc. (preferably in Environmental related field).
- 0-2 years of relevant experience.
- A comprehensive understanding and experience working on a Federal properties and/or knowledge of the FCSAP process would be a great asset.
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Bilingual capabilities considered an asset.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle.
- Autonomous, methodical, responsible, resourceful and punctual person.
- Attention to detail. Ability to analyze and synthesize.
- Available for variable hours.
- Available to coordinate or work on sites throughout the office province or outside the Province, on occasion.
