This role provides strategic leadership, mentorship, and guidance to staff, ensuring that all programs and services effectively support Indigenous student recruitment, well-being, engagement, and retention. The Manager works collaboratively across Humber and Guelph Humber departments and faculties, and builds strong relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, school districts, and funding partners.%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/p%3E

Education
Minimum 4 Year Degree in Indigenous Studies, Business Management, or related field.

Experience/Skills

  • Minimum of five years of progressive administrative experience, preferably in a postsecondary or Indigenous education setting.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, and with Indigenous learners, families, and Elders in both urban and rural contexts. Deep understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems, values, worldviews, cultural protocols, and diverse learning styles, with the ability to integrate these into student services and institutional practices.

  • Proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate culturally responsive programs that support Indigenous student access, retention, and success.

     

  • Experience facilitating Indigenous community engagement, including consultation, relationship-building, and co-creation of initiatives.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, storytelling, and culturally appropriate communication strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex student concerns with empathy, discretion, and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Advanced problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, particularly in cross-cultural and multi-stakeholder environments.

  • Proficiency in time management, priority-setting, conflict resolution, and delegation within a team-based, unionized environment.

  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor and support diverse teams.

  • Familiarity with Indigenous education policy frameworks (e.g., TRC Calls to Action, UNDRIP, OCAP® principles).

  • Broad knowledge of college programs, services, and student support systems.

  • Proficiency in institutional systems and software, including Banner, Microsoft Office Suite, and data tracking/reporting tools.
