A Data Analyst in the Investment Data Services team is a key player in the data management function at Thornburg. This role involves working with large and complex data sets to support our investment and sales processes. The Data Analyst acts as a liaison between various business functions and the IT department to facilitate both existing and new analytic data sets. Combining technical skills, investment knowledge, and business acumen, the Data Analyst solves complex problems across different asset classes, including equity, fixed income, alternatives, municipals, and multi-asset. Responsibilities include conducting detailed analysis, ensuring data quality, and preparing timely investment data reports. The role serves a diverse group of internal clients, including portfolio management, trading, risk, compliance, marketing, and legal. Success in this role requires proficiency in specialized software and a strong understanding of financial metrics and regulatory/legal restrictions that impact investment decision-making and marketing materials.


  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the custodian for the firm’s investment data, performing analysis and data visualization to ensure the integrity of monthly and quarterly reporting.
  • Collect user requirements and analyze workflows to recommend improvements for efficiency and scalability. Implement technical solutions where possible.
  • Understand financial market concepts, with an emphasis on equity and fixed income portfolio and security-level analytics, including all asset classes and relevant systems.
  • Collaborate with portfolio management teams, portfolio specialists, IT, and data services to develop processes for creating, gathering, and storing investment data for delivery to various departments.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement, providing senior management with assessments of portfolio analytics changes and business justifications.
  • Act as the firm’s point of contact and subject matter expert in the use of external portfolio analytics software packages, including Factset, Investortools Perform, and Bloomberg.
  • Review analytics data for accuracy before distribution within the firm. 
  • Provide business analysis and integration for strategic business processes and services for organizational programs and projects.
  • Lead and/or assist with various business process initiatives as part of a project team or individually.
  •  Undertake special projects and other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field
  • +2 years of relevant experience in financial services
  • +2 years of experience with data analytics, relevant programming and query languages (Python, R, SQL), process automation, and data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, competing priorities and deadlines effectively
  • Analytical thinker with high attention to detail and an aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of financial mathematics, models, and statistics is desirable
  • Understanding of institutional and retail investment products.
  • Familiarity with tools such as FactSet, Investortools Perform, Bloomberg,
  • Strong commitment to drive change with a bias towards action.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
