Fortive is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly motivated accounting professional who will play a critical role in supporting Fortive’s technical accounting and financial reporting efforts. Working under the guidance of the Director of SEC Reporting, you will be responsible for performing technical accounting research and analysis, drafting position papers and policy updates to address complexities that arise in our dynamic business environment, and supporting our external financial reporting function. This unique role will provide broad experience and exposure to key business transactions spanning acquisitions and divestitures, financing-related initiatives, and a range of industry-specific issues in the areas of technology, healthcare, manufacturing, and government contracting, with an opportunity for the individual to lead the technical accounting and reporting analysis for complexities that arise across each of these areas. Responsibilities: 

  • Research and analyze technical accounting matters to support both Operating Company and Corporate management
  • Work in partnership with OpCos, corporate accounting, corporate development, tax and treasury teams, among others, to provide support and guidance for new business models and accounting transactions 
  • Monitor new accounting pronouncements and accounting policy developments and support implementation efforts including education of our corporate teams and operating companies, as relevant
  • Lead the preparation of Fortive’s annual goodwill and intangible asset impairment testing, perform net investment hedging analyses, support acquisition-related accounting activities, and lead other areas of standard work
  • Assist in the preparation of Fortive SEC filings on Form 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K earnings release, Proxy, and other external reports 
  • Liaise with external auditors in planning and executing their work
  • Support the CAO, Segment CAO, and VP of Finance and Accounting carry out focused accounting projects across Fortive’s operating companies
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and participate in the continuous improvement of Fortive’s finance processes, utilizing the Fortive Business System (FBS)
  • Lead your professional and career development:
    • Stay current on accounting, auditing and regulatory matters and changes in technology and related subjects
    • Learn the key drivers of the Company’s operations
    • Contribute to and learn from company meetings

 

Qualifications

Our successful candidate will be intellectually curious and highly motivated, with an ability to effectively collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities at a time. Further, our successful candidate will have the ability to participate in spirited give-and-take discussions and be a great teammate who will “do what it takes” to get the job done. It is important to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to work with people at multiple levels of our organization, including Fortive’s Chief Accounting Officer, Segment CAO, VP of Finance and Accounting, and OpCo leadership. To be a good fit for this opportunity, you will also have/be:

  • CPA with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 5 years of audit and/or technical accounting experience 
  • Strong technical accounting background in US GAAP and ability to research, understand and communicate complex technical issues in an effective manner
  • Operate in a way that never compromises ethics and integrity
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and support practical solutions 
  • Meticulous with the objective of consistently delivering high quality work product, while maintaining an understanding of the bigger picture
  • A forward-thinking mentality with an ability to make connections, carry forward findings, and identify or anticipate potential challenges before they arise
  • Able to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a high-energy, dynamic environment
  • A hands-on and can-do approach with a desire to continue learning and developing
  • Experience accounting for acquisitions and software/SaaS revenue recognition is a plus!
