Are you passionate about building stronger communities and helping people connect? As an AmeriCorps State and National member, you can serve with the Library Corps at the Kansas City Public Library and make a lasting impact.
Library Corps members serve in one of two key roles:
- Tech Coach: Help patrons build digital skills, navigate technology, and access online resources
- Outreach Member: Support community connection by attending community outreach events, drafting of social media content, and promotion of Outreach programs
Both roles are focused on reducing social isolation and strengthening community connections. Whether you're helping someone send their first email or connecting a family to community resources, your service will make a difference.
Library Corps is a one-year AmeriCorps position.
- Members must complete 1,200 service hours over the course of one year.
- Members will be scheduled for 25 hours per week.
- Members will receive a $19,092 annual living stipend, paid biweekly for their service.
- Upon successful completion of their service term, members will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.
- The anticipated start date for Library Corps members is September 29, 2025, with a service completion date of August 31, 2026.

Library Corps Tech Coach
Summary:
Tech Coach members will work as digital guides helping individuals navigate the digital landscape, obtain digital literacy skills, and find needed government benefits and community services. The Library’s provide digital learning opportunities through drop-in sessions at the Library branches. Each member will conduct an anticipated 25 hours of drop-in sessions per month. Patrons and community partner site clients included, but are not limited to, older adults, refugees, English language learners, and people living below poverty line.
We are looking to fill 13 Library Corps Tech Coach spots.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct drop-in sessions (schedules below) at Library branches to assist patrons with technology, employment, and benefits-related needs
- Assist patrons with technology questions including, but not limited to creating/using email, navigating mobile print service, utilize common software
- Assist patrons with job searches and resume building
- Assist patrons with identifying and applying for government benefits
- Teach classes to enhance digital literacy of community members
Marginal Functions:
- Participate in community outreach events to share digital literacy resources from the Library
- Offer one-on-one appointments for individualized support
- Use online tools to assess each participant’s digital learning needs and connect them to appropriate learning modules
- Create promotion and marketing material for classes and/or digital literacy programs
- Data collection and reporting

- Familiar with one or more of the following operating systems: Microsoft, Android, iOS
- Proficient at navigating a variety of devices such as tablets, smartphones, and laptops or Chromebooks
- Experience in the following skills: active listening, creative problem solving, customer service
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs

Library Corps Outreach
Summary:
This position will lead and attend community outreach events, draft social media content that highlights the Library’s community engagement efforts and enhance existing outreach promotional materials. Serving as a liaison between the Library and the community, this role is responsible for promoting Library services and resources to a wide audience. These include, but are not limited to, older adults, refugees, English language learners, and individuals living below the poverty line.
We are looking to fill 2 Library Corps Outreach spots.
Essential Functions:
- Staff community appearance/outreach events as needed and represent the Library throughout the community
- Gather library promotional resources to share with partners and patrons at events
- Promote the Library’s community appearance process and Library resources
- In partnership with the library’s Public Affairs department, draft an initiative on social media content highlighting the Library’s outreach efforts in the community
- Collaborate with other internal departments and branch staff to fulfill community engagement requests
- Learn and maintain a broad understanding of Library services to promote offerings and make informed referral
Marginal Functions:
- Expand our community appearance kits to include enhanced resources and offerings
- Create promotional and marketing material for the Library’s community appearance process
- Participate in professional development training
- Support the Outreach team by creating fliers, draft social media content, and related promotional materials
- Be available to work some evening and weekend events, including events outside
- Data collection and reporting
You Need:
- Ability to lift or push 35 lbs
- Ability to be seated for up to two hours
- This position may require working outdoors
- Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with staff and public
- Ability to organize work effectively establishing service procedures and protocol
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic and challenging environment with a diverse population
- Ability to answer a wide variety of queries regarding current Library resources and communicating accurately
Schedules:
- Flexible, however, availability to attend evening and weekend events necessary
