Description

Job Description:

Are you a forward-thinking individual committed to innovation, quality, and excellence?  DITEK is looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineer with Embedded Systems experience to join our team in Largo, FL to help take our products from concept to production. You’ll design hardware and firmware, migrate legacy AVR systems to ESP32, and bring new connected features to life in consumer and industrial electronics.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer (Embedded Systems) will be responsible for designing, coding, and integrating advanced features into our electrical products, taking them from concept through production. This role blends hands-on circuit design with embedded software development and requires the ability to adapt legacy systems to modern connected platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement embedded software for microcontrollers (Microchip AVR, ESP32).
  • Experience with Atmel/Microchip AVR microcontrollers (e.g., ATtiny family) and migrating legacy designs to more capable platforms such as ESP32 for expanded I/O, wireless connectivity, and increased processing power.
  • Develop, test, and debug firmware to support wireless communication and mobile app integration.
  • Apply RTOS concepts (e.g., FreeRTOS on ESP32) for task scheduling and system stability.
  • Design and review PCB layouts using Altium Designer, ensuring DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFT (Design for Testability) best practices.
  • Assist the Test Set Engineer by creating and laying out PCBs for product test fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across hardware, firmware, and integration layers.
  • Collaborate with the product team to integrate new features, optimize product performance, and prepare designs for compliance and certification (UL, CE, FCC).
  • Document schematics, firmware revisions, and test procedures to ensure clear communication across engineering and production teams.
  • Support the full product lifecycle from concept, prototype, and testing through to production release.
  • Perform design reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Work with external vendors and suppliers to evaluate components and ensure supply chain reliability.

Qualifications

 Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years’ product design experience with embedded coding.
  • Proven experience in embedded systems development (C/C++ for microcontrollers).
  • Hands-on experience coding Microchip microcontrollers and ESP32 platforms.
  • Strong proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Familiarity with RTOS concepts and task management on embedded platforms.
  • Solid understanding of electrical circuits, product design, and system integration.
  • Experience with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi protocol implementation and mobile app integration.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
  • Experience using hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, in-circuit debuggers).
  • Bonus: Knowledge of IoT/cloud integration (MQTT, AWS IoT, Azure IoT, etc.).
  • Experience preparing designs for compliance and certification (UL, CE, FCC).

 Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware and firmware.
  • Experience developing mobile applications or working with mobile app teams for integration.
  • Familiarity with product compliance and certification processes.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between electrical circuits and software-driven functionality.
  • Strong understanding of embedded security practices (secure bootloaders, encrypted communications, firmware updates).
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and projects effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to “think outside the box” to develop efficient products.
