Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Environmental Science, Policy, Studies, or Education). Associate’s degree and two years transferable program experience may substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree.
- One-year relevant work, internship, or volunteer experience.
- Knowledge of environmental, energy, and natural resource issues.
- Experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to meet acceptable motor vehicle/driving record requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
- Ability to analyze issues and to initiate, plan, organize, implement & evaluate informal educational programs addressing diverse audiences in assigned areas.
- Ability to utilize computer technology to author reports and proposals, communicate internally and externally, prepare visuals, access information and learn and teach.
- Experience with public presentations in small and large groups.
- Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders, and clientele groups.

- Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
- Ability to design and implement an effective marketing plan for assigned responsibilities including element of program marketing, legislative/sponsor marketing and organizational marketing.
- Ability to transport visual aids, tables, meeting materials, etc.
- Ability to use current GIS mapping computer software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering field-based education programs.
- Ability to use Esri ArcGIS computer software.
- Master’s degree a plus.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Program Responsibilities:
Program Development - 20%
- Assist in developing educational strategies using subject matter knowledge (GIS, Environment, Climate).
- Assist with the creation of innovative educational programs. An emphasis is placed on developing programs that creatively bring stakeholders and residents into contact with field study and programs.
- Assist with research, identification and selection of existing resources for educational programs.
- Assist with the creation of program materials, such as presentations, written handouts, and talking points that address the educational needs of audiences.
- Work on inter-disciplinary work groups to develop program content.
- Identify gaps in available educational materials and share specific needs with supervisor to further program development.
- Assist with structuring programs to meet the needs of diverse program participants.
- Assist with the creation of programs that engage under-represented audiences, which may include women, minorities, immigrants, and young adults and families.
- Maintain a direct linkage with the county project managers to obtain development guidance.
- Assist with development of programs to meet changing local issues.
- Assist with making programmatic changes based on evaluation outcomes.
- Assist with ensuring program development is within the scope of the County Association annual work plan.
Program Delivery - 40%
- Apply subject matter knowledge of to the creation of lessons and educational plans for program delivery.
- Teach innovative educational programs with discretion.
- Provide programs in classroom, office, and field settings.
- Provide educational programs via the internet such as webinar and mass media such as video posted online, or radio or television.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary efforts to deliver programs, particularly with climate/environment scientists and other environmental resource professionals.
- May teach as part of an inter-disciplinary team delivering programs.
- Serve as a subject matter resource for climate and environment programs around Dutchess County and with other stakeholders. Provide non-standard responses to questions.
- Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, and government officials as part of program delivery.
- Use proven educational methodologies to deliver content.
- Assist with ensuring that program delivery is within the scope of the County Association annual work plan.
Program Evaluation - 5%
- Assist with applying subject matter knowledge to evaluate educational programs.
- Implement program evaluation as designed.
- Based on established program parameters, interpret evaluation data.
- Communicate evaluation results and findings.
- May assist in making recommendations for improvements.
Applied Research - 5%
- Assist with GIS studies.
- Communicate to Cornell University Specialists that may be studied and/or acted upon.
- Ensure applied research is within scope of the Statewide Plan of Work.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction - 10%
- Work with the CCEDC Program Leader to plan the delivery of education program goals and structure of delivering programs.
- Participate as a team member in annual education and outreach planning for Association Environment Program.
- Provide details on the feasibility of delivering educational programs to assist with planning their delivery.
- Provide CCEDC Program Leader with program related information to guide the budget development process.
- Provide input on communications strategies for reaching climate and environmental audiences.
- Assist with planning of mass media campaigns that outreach program efforts.
Management Responsibilities:
Management - 10%
- Assist with monitoring education program implementation steps, whether project milestones have been achieved, and to ensure that educational content conforms to research base, policies and objectives of the Association.
- Facilitate and oversee volunteer staffing plans and duties for education events.
- Assist with solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise during the delivery of education programs using appropriate policies and procedures.
- Assist with monitoring program expenses to ensure spending is within provided limits.
- Provide guidance to volunteers and interns participating in programs and events.
Coordination/Operation - 5%
- Implement education project schedules.
- Implement volunteer staffing plans and duties for education events.
- Create agendas for project delivery planning meetings.
- Assemble event supplies and program materials for delivery.
- Communicate project schedules and meeting agendas and objectives to project work groups.
- Inform staff and project working groups of education program developments on a regular basis and as needed to ensure project success.
- Develop project reports and summaries on a quarterly and annual basis, and as needed, to meet Association and funding agency requirements.
- Assist with implementation of advertising and marketing of program activities.
- Transport self and materials to program delivery and research sites.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
- In cooperation with the Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

This is a full time, 40 hours per week, benefits eligible, non-exempt position. Compensation paid at the rate of $29.10 per hour. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
