The marketing team at Ballantine Books is seeking a creative, passionate Marketing Assistant or Marketing Associate. This position reports to the Associate Director of Marketing. In addition to providing administrative support, the Marketing Assistant/Associate will manage and lead marketing campaigns for their own list of titles. This role offers excellent training and skill-building opportunities for a future in title marketing—with the chance to develop, lead, and execute book campaigns using data-driven and creative marketing tactics.  

 

Candidates applying at the assistant level should ideally have experience in the publishing industry by way of internships, book blogging, bookselling, admin work, etc. Candidates applying at the associate level will ideally have a minimum of 1 year of experience as an assistant in the publishing industry.  

 

Ballantine is renowned by readers as the go-to publisher for commercial fiction across contemporary fiction, mystery/thriller, historical fiction, romance, as well as thought-provoking and narrative nonfiction. Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Supports the Associate Director of Marketing in developing wide scale, consumer-focused marketing campaigns.  
  • Assists in the planning and strategy of book/author campaigns, including social media and influencer marketing, consumer engagement on Goodreads and NetGalley, and sales materials. 
  • Performs administrative responsibilities such as coordinating and scheduling meetings, influencer and bookseller mailings, fulfilling sweepstakes and bookseller/librarian requests, generating copy for marketing assets, updating campaign plans, and other related tasks. 
  • Manages and executes marketing campaigns for select titles, with support from the Associate Director of Marketing (this will not happen immediately at the Assistant level).

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Familiarity with Canva, TikTok, Instagram, and Substack a plus  
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, hybrid work environment 
  • A passion for: reading, initiative, innovation, collaboration, and curiosity   
  • Internship, bookselling, or other publishing related experience for Assistant applicants; Minimum 1 year of assistant experience in publishing or a related field for Associate applicants  

 

The salary for the Marketing Assistant is $51,000. The salary for the Marketing Associate is $56,000. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.   

 

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
