Program Description
Longroad Energy’s internship program provides opportunities for undergraduate students from underrepresented communities to explore careers in renewable energy. In 2026, Longroad is offering paid internship positions that create challenging hands-on learning experiences for college juniors, entering their senior year in the Fall. Selected interns will participate in a 10–12-week summer program that includes onboarding, structured work experience, mentoring, and exposure both to department-specific and company-wide personnel and activities.
Job Purpose
The Transmission Intern will support the identification and evaluation of optimal locations for new renewable energy projects within the transmission grid. By assisting with transmission prospecting, data analysis, and the use of specialized tools, the intern will contribute to expanding the company’s project pipeline. This role provides hands-on experience in power systems and renewable project development while supporting the team’s strategic growth objectives.
Responsibilities & Tasks:
- Assist with transmission prospecting by analyzing grid maps, system data, and available capacity.
- Use tools such as TARA, PSSE, Google Earth, and Landgate to evaluate potential project locations.
- Compile and organize transmission and land data to support development decisions.
- Conduct research on transmission planning studies, queue positions, and system upgrades.
- Prepare summaries, maps, and visuals to communicate findings to the development team
- Participate in team meetings and present progress on assigned tasks.
- Document methodologies and results to ensure knowledge transfer and repeatability.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate student at a 4-year college
- Preferred major of Electrical Engineering
- Course work in power systems (e.g., power system analysis, electrical machines, power electronics, renewable energy systems, energy markets & policy)
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Interest in Renewable Energy Industry
- Curiosity
- Self-starter
- Strong written and organizational skills
- Microsoft Excel proficiency
- Cover letter highly preferred
- Interest in renewable energy industry
