The Senior Environmental Scientist will provide technical expertise and leadership on federal environmental contracting projects. The role will initially focus on a large-scale remediation project on the North Carolina coast, involving soil and water sampling, hazardous material cleanup, and site restoration. Following that project, the Senior Environmental Scientist will support a wide range of environmental assignments across the United States, including investigations, assessments, permitting, and remediation.


This is a field and office-based position requiring a strong background in environmental science, hydrogeology, and remediation, with proven experience managing complex environmental tasks and mentoring junior staff.


Essential duties include:

· Lead and perform field investigations, including soil, water, air, and sediment sampling; monitoring; and site assessments.

· Serve as technical lead and primary client contact for smaller- to mid-sized projects; support project managers on large-scale projects.

· Support and oversee remediation projects, including petroleum, asbestos, and other hazardous material cleanup.

· Prepare and review work plans, technical reports, and data analyses.

· Interpret environmental data, develop findings, and provide recommendations for corrective actions or further study.

· Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, NEPA).

· Mentor and train junior scientists and technicians in field methods, reporting, and compliance requirements.

· Assist in proposal development, cost estimating, and client prospecting.

· Participate in conferences and professional societies as requested.

· Adhere to company and project-specific health and safety protocols, including use of PPE.


Requirements


Minimum Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Biology, or related field required

· 5-8 years of experience in environmental consulting, remediation, or related fields.

· Experience working with federal contracts and clients required.

· Professional certification (e.g., Professional Geologist, Licensed Environmental Professional)


Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

· 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER (required before site mobilization).

· Asbestos/Lead Inspector certifications preferred.

· Proficiency in GIS and environmental modeling software.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Strong technical knowledge of environmental regulations, sampling methods, and remediation strategies.

· Experience with hydrogeologic and remediation system design or modeling.

· Excellent technical writing and data interpretation skills.

· Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.


Other Requirements:

· Valid driver’s license.

· Ability to travel for extended project assignments (initially two weeks on-site, one week off rotation; later nationwide travel as needed).

· Ability to gain access to military installations.


Work Environment:

· Ability to work in the Overland Park office, Tuesday - Thursday.

· Regularly required to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.

· Travel required for nationwide project work, including overnight stays.
