The Material Control Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Materials Manager and is responsible for procurement & planning functions directly associated with the company's needs for materials and services. Additionally, responsible for monitoring material flow on the production floor, ensuring products and resources are properly allocated in support of our internal customers. These products and services include machinery parts for corrugated and finishing equipment and need to be secured at cost quality and at company performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, procuring and scheduling of materials delivery and inventory control.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiates purchase orders and amendments to existing orders in support of manufacturing, aftermarket, and the parts sales teams. Maintains close coordination with engineering to ensure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
- Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Leads and organizes costing initiatives, involving organization, quoting and data input into MRP system as needed.
- Studies manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities; advises company activities with concurrence of the Materials Manager.
- Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management; negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from the Materials Manager.
- Coordinates as appropriate QC needs and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers. Works closely with Production Control, Purchasing, Engineering, Accounting, and Quality departments.
- Assess material shortages, delivery dates, production changes, etc. and ensure all appropriate personnel are aware and take appropriate action.
- Expedite material needs of manufacturing through production control, purchasing and the warehouse as needed.
- Support inventory control by ensuring parts are transacted correctly in ERP system as the material moves from jobs to the warehouse through the manufacturing floor and to ultimately shipped off our system.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors in Engineering Discipline, Industrial Distribution/Supply Chain, Supply Chain Management or Business.
- 3-5 years’ experience in an industrial material supply chain and/or purchasing role in a manufacturing industry required.
- Ability to read mechanical blueprints preferred.
- Proficient competency in computer applications; Microsoft suite, ERP systems, alphanumeric data entry, and typing.
- On the job knowledge of manufacturing processes, supply chain operations, scheduling, inventory control and other related functions.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with an ERP-type inventory / purchasing system required.
- Strong skills in the use of Word, Excel or similar computer applications in a Windows environment.
- High level of competence in written and oral communication skills, analytical problem solving, decisiveness, and planning required.
