Description
The Driver/Recovery Support Specialist supports the program by providing direct care to the clients, running groups, ensuring that the clients take their medication, driving clients to appointments, and assisting with service planning. The Driver/Recovery Support Specialist reports to the Program Manager.
Location: Shepherd House in Dorchester, provides residential treatment programs for 39 women with substance use disorder. The program is three-to-nine months long and helps support the residents with co-occurring conditions, such as mental health and chronic health conditions. Shepherd House also serves pregnant and postpartum women, as well as infants, allowing new mothers to continue their focus on recovery.
Essential Functions:
- Provide quality, empathetic customer service to the clients in the program.
- Drives clients to appointments as needed.
- Understand and implement a harm reduction philosophy.
- Provide a supportive and trauma-informed environment to women in recovery who have dual diagnoses (mental health and substance use).
- Ensure that when clients take medication, all policies and procedures are followed for assisting and monitoring the clients’ self-administration of medication.
- Perform interventions with clients utilizing a motivational interviewing/strength-based perspective.
- Responsible for medication documentation, including: counting controlled medication, documenting incoming medication and medication removal, signing off on medication as it is taken by the clients.
- Provide milieu coverage, including: monitoring and assessing the integrity of the program’s therapeutic milieu, empowering clients to act in accordance with guidelines in the program; conduct rounds; answer phones and front door; monitor clients signing in and out; distribute linen, etc.
- Enforce all policies and procedures of Victory Programs, Inc.
- Ensure all policies and procedures related to maintaining a safe and appropriate residential environment. This includes ensuring that the facility is safe, clean, and in a good state of repair; that fire escape routes are free of obstacles; and reporting facility concerns.
- Input client/program data in Electronic Health Records.
- Conduct groups for the clients, including psychoeducational groups and recovery groups, as appropriate/needed.
- Provide referrals as needed.
- Participate with the clinical team, including assessing clients’ behaviors, assisting with clients’ treatment goals, and intervening as needed.
- Communicate to program staff any information specific to management and maintenance of the facility that occurs during the shift.
- Perform other duties or tasks that may be requested by a Supervisor or other designated personnel.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience providing direct care to individuals with co-occurring/mental health.
- Substance use and residential treatment experience is preferred.
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license with a positive point rating of 98. 99, 00. 01, 02 or 03.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; BA/AA preferred.
- Strong understanding of mental health.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
- Ability to engage with clients in an instructive, directive, yet compassionate manner.
- Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural settings with diverse client groups.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Position Type: Full Time (40 hours) Monday – Friday 7am – 3pm.
Rate: $22.28/hr
