About the Department
The Office of Cultural Development’s vision is to promote a Louisiana that values and embraces Louisiana cultural assets as essential in shaping a vibrant future for our communities and citizens. The Atchafalaya National Heritage Area is made up of 15 parishes in south-central Louisiana. In 2006, Congress designated the area as a region with significant natural, scenic, cultural, historical, and recreational resources that offer a unique blend of European, African, Caribbean, and Native American cultures.
The Assistant Director will work directly under the Executive Director of the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area (AHNA) and assist in the implementation of the ANHA Management Plan and 2021 Strategic Plan, including strategic and annual planning, implementation, assessment, and improvement of mission-related programs, partnerships, community relations, social media, education, outreach, and other key areas.
Position Duties
Bachelor's degree followed by two years of experience in marketing, communications, cultural heritage tourism, community and economic development, outdoor recreation planning, or similar fields.
Experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and Canva.
Minimum Qualifications
Employees performs duties independently and exercise a high degree of independent judgement and initiative in determining the approach/action to take in non-routine situations.

General from a classified/unclassified executive or high-ranking classified administrator.

May supervise 1-2 lower-level personnel.
Location of Work:
Position is located at the Capitol Annex Building in Baton Rouge, LA. May be required to travel in, around, and out-of the state of Louisiana.
Other Qualifications
- Implements outreach pan through social media, website, email newsletter(s), and representation at educational and cultural events.
- Coordinates communication strategies across divisions and departments.
- Represents ANHA at public speaking engagements, workshops, and conferences as needed.
- Works with Executive Director to develop programs and events that benefit the heritage area mission.
- Promotes awareness of Atchafalaya NHA vision, mission, goals, and objectives.
- Works with parishes, Commissioners, non-profits, tourism partners, and organizations to advance projects and initiatives that fulfill ANHA goals and objectives, and Annual Work Plan goals.
- Conducts early research and assessment and makes recommendations for partnerships to the Executive Director.
- Manages inventories and distribution of promotional items, brochures, and curriculum.
- Manages asset databased including updates to in-house lists and public-facing maps and partnered departments.
- Maintains and monitors the master calendar, which tracks the dates and times of all functions related to the ANHA including functions hosted by allied organizations and internal partnered departments.
- Assists with the preparation of materials for quarterly commission meetings, executive committee meetings, and subcommittees.
- Assists the Executive Director with data collection, grant administration, reporting, commission support and other responsibilities as needed.
- Writes reports, corresponds, and/or assembles other administrative data as directed by the Executive Director.
- Performs other related duties, as required.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position. This position may be required to work overtime, weekends/evenings, and/or holidays. This position may be required to travel.
