About the Department

In cooperation with the Upward Bound Assistant Director, provides comprehensive academic and personal support to promote student success; coordinates, documents, and implements individualized support services during the academic year; and directs residence life operations, staff supervision, and student engagement during the summer component.

Position Duties

A. Contributes ideas and efforts towards meeting the goals and objectives of the Upward Bound program by planning, attending, and participating in meetings, events, workshops, and/or other related activities.

B. Leads the development and implementation of individualized student success plans, with emphasis on each year’s graduating class; provides intensive, intrusive advising and targeted services to address academic and personal needs; and ensures accountability through consistent communication and thorough documentation of student support sessions.

C. Develops and facilitates key components of the annual summer program. This includes: (a) Assigns all student and staff residence hall placements and coordinates housing needs and procedures with university staff; (b) Recruits, interviews, trains, supervises, and evaluates resident advisors during the summer residential component; (c) Oversees and enforces daily residence hall operations and program schedules; (d) Collaborates with summer instructors to design and implement academic plans for participants; (e) Plans and coordinates recreational activities and manages facility scheduling and room reservations; and (f) Supervises students participating in the summer residential component, Junior Career Experience, and Summer Bridge to ensure safety, engagement, and accountability.

D. Provides individualized and intrusive advising and professional guidance to students on career exploration, postsecondary admission, financial aid, academic progress, and personal development; establishes and maintains a structured follow-up system to support recent graduates in their transition beyond high school.

E. Identifies, plans, and executes educational field trips and enrichment activities that promote student retention and engagement, such as cultural exposure, workshops, and college visits during both the academic year and summer program. Ensures active supervision and safety of participants during all activities.

F.Develops and executes a strategic recruitment plan to maintain program enrollment. Represents the Upward Bound program at high schools, community organizations, service clubs, and public events to build awareness and recruit eligible students.

G. Collects, analyzes, and maintains accurate academic data on program participants, including GPA, standardized test scores, and grade reports, to track progress and outcomes directly related to program objectives.

H. Establishes and sustains strong relationships with high school personnel by maintaining consistent communication regarding students’ academic performance, progress, and overall well-being.

Minimum Qualifications

A. Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work or related field required; master's ­degree preferred.

B. Work experience with high school students in an educational setting ­ preferred.

C. Work experience with federal or state grant programs preferred.

D. Experience with university residence hall living and staff supervision and evaluation preferred.

E. Qualified candidate must have strong reading, writing, and computation skills, as well as strong computer experience with Microsoft office or comparable software applications. Bilingual preferred.

Hiring range: $52,624/yr. min - $59,202/yr. 1st quartile - $65,780/yr. mid
