The Automation Technician provides electrical and instrumentation (I&E) support to East Texas operations, with a focus on automation, SCADA, and field communications. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing PLCs, transmitters, actuators, and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations in oil and gas production.
Responsibilities:Install, troubleshoot, and repair PLCs (Allen Bradley Micro 800 series), transmitters, and automation components.
Support SCADA and HMI systems; monitor production operations using SCADA.
Configure and manage data collection systems (Red Lion DA70, Crimson 3.1/3.2, MQTT for Ignition).
Maintain and troubleshoot communication equipment (Freewave, XetaWave, RedLion, ABB, GE MDS).
Support oil and gas facility controls including plunger lifts, choke control, separator dump control, pressure management, amine plant and safety systems.
Work with electric actuators (Rotorx, Fisher Easy Drives, Vanzandt, Kimray).
Read and interpret P&IDs, ladder logic, and function block diagrams.
Follow LOTO procedures and HSE guidelines; promote a strong safety culture.
Perform call-out duties and respond to operational issues after hours.
Assist operations with other duties as assigned.
3+ years of I&E/Automation experience in Oil & Gas operations preferred.
Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs, ABB TotalFlow, Fisher ROC, transmitters, and automation systems.
Working knowledge of Red Lion DA70 data collection and screen building.
Familiarity with O&G equipment and operations (separators, plunger lifts, dumps, amine plants).
Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical circuits and components.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work with minimal supervision.
Must be safety-focused, able to work in extreme outdoor conditions.
Must pass Fit Test and work in H2S environments wearing SCBA.
Must be able to obtain fall protection certification for working at heights.
