Random House Graphic is a dedicated graphic novel imprint of Random House Children’s Books, publishing diverse and imaginative stories for readers of all ages. We celebrate the power of visual storytelling across genres and styles, from heartfelt contemporary tales to fantastical adventures. With the launch of our new imprint, Ink Pop, we are seeking a creative Designer with a passion for Manga, Manhwa, and Webtoons, to help shape its bold and dynamic identity.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Responsible for effective, high-quality interior and cover designs for graphic novels and manga across all age categories. This includes, but is not limited to, developing cover concepts, writing art notes, interior type design and graphic novel lettering, laying out mechanicals, inputting text corrections, preparing sales materials, releasing files to production, and reviewing proofs.
- Ensures that design supports product positioning and meets scheduled deadlines; traffics design work to maintain schedules as needed within established budget guidelines.
- Works in close partnership with editors and Art Director to ensure timely and conceptually accurate completion of assignments.
- Communicates clearly, professionally, and courteously with all internal and external contacts.
- Attends and participates in production, cover, team, and title-specific meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of book design experience, preferably in comic or manga publishing
- Must have portfolio showcasing inventive comic design and typography skills
- Thorough knowledge of Mac software, including current InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator programs
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs
- Experience with prepress work, must know how to create print-ready mechanicals
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, quality, and process
- Strong knowledge of typography
- Ability to work conceptually, under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a desire to learn and work collaboratively
- 4-year college degree/BFA /art technical school a plus but not required
- Knowledge of current graphic novel and manga bestsellers, trends, and art resources preferred
- Lettering and Illustration skills preferred
The salary for this position is $66,500.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
