Job Summary:
We are looking for a reliable and skilled Facilities Technician - Painter to support the upkeep and appearance of our buildings and grounds. This role is responsible for performing surface preparation and painting duties to ensure our facility interiors and exteriors are safe, attractive, and well-maintained. The Facilities Technician - Painter plays a key role in maintaining a professional and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and clients. This position will also include general maintenance as required.
Hours: Monday - Friday; 4:00pm Start This shift has a 10% shift differential added on top of the base pay as an incentive to work the 2nd shift schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare walls, ceilings, floors, doors, trim, and other surfaces by cleaning, patching, sanding, and priming.
- Apply paints, stains, sealants, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Match and mix paints and finish to maintain color consistency throughout the facility.
- Repair drywall, stucco, plaster, and other surfaces as part of the painting process.
- Paint facility components such as walls, hallways, restrooms, offices, stairwells, handrails, and exteriors.
- Identify and report maintenance issues that go beyond the scope of painting.
- Maintain inventory of painting supplies and materials; request replacements as needed.
- Set up and dismantle scaffolding, ladders, and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
- Follow all OSHA and facility safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Keep records of work completed, paint types/colors used, and scheduled maintenance cycles.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and custodial staff to coordinate repairs and facility upgrades.
- Provide support for renovation projects or event setups as needed.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of building and mechanical systems.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance tasks on equipment and facilities as needed.
- Respond to maintenance requests from staff and complete general repairs.
- Maintain the company's facilities and equipment to include general building care, recycling, snow removal, yard care, etc.
- General carpentry, painting, sheetrock, staining, repairing doors, and setup/remodel of work areas etc..
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests outside of regular hours as necessary to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of occupants and property.
- Report maintenance issues and safety hazards to the Facilities Supervisor/Facility Manager.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and completed work orders.
- Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor/Manager.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years of professional painting experience, preferably in a facilities or institutional setting.
- Working knowledge of paints, coatings, surface prep techniques, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, or technical drawings.
- Proficient in the safe use of painting tools and equipment.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders/scaffolding, and perform repetitive motions.
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance practices and systems.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to effectively manage time, including competing work demands and multiple projects at the same time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in healthcare, education, government, or commercial facilities.
- Training in industrial or commercial painting techniques.
- Familiarity with low-VOC and sustainable painting practices.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools for maintenance and repairs.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in inclement weather.
- May involve exposure to paint fumes, dust, and other airborne particles.
- Use of ladders, lifts, or scaffolding may be required for high areas.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or emergency work may be necessary based on project needs.
