Summary

The Director of Academic Affairs offers strategic leadership and manages daily operations for the Faculty Academic Life (FAL) program within Academic Affairs - CAO. This position plays a key role in developing and executing a thorough faculty onboarding and advising system that aligns with institutional goals and promotes academic excellence.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Academic Affairs, the Director is a key member of the FAL leadership team and works collaboratively with Academic Affairs and institutional stakeholders to ensure alignment of onboarding and faculty lifecycle initiatives with broader academic strategies.

The Director spearheads impactful, data-driven onboarding and transition initiatives to ensure faculty are efficiently and successfully integrated into the institution. Additionally, the Director manages the faculty advisors, guaranteeing that faculty and institutional stakeholders receive personalized, consistent, and developmentally appropriate guidance during the faculty onboarding process.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Operational Oversight

  • Acts as a key member of the FAL leadership team, helping develop, align, and continuously improve faculty onboarding and transition services.
  • Ensures alignment of FAL onboarding and engagement strategies with institutional academic priorities and the strategic goals of Academic Affairs - CAO and the Chief Academic Office.
  • Continuously apply process improvement techniques to enhance the quality and standards of the faculty advisors’ standard operating procedures. Monitor faculty advisor metrics to ensure an appropriate workload balance among the Faculty Advisors.
  • Leads long-term strategic planning to anticipate faculty lifecycle needs and guide programmatic and operational growth.
  • Uses data-driven methods to assess onboarding success, guide decisions, and improve faculty and department administrator experience.
  • Oversees key FAL functions such as budget planning, personnel management, business process improvement, and service delivery.

Faculty Advisor Leadership

Provides strategic oversight of the faculty advisors, ensuring coordination with division-level advisors and alignment with faculty onboarding and development goals. Leads the recruitment, training, and performance management of faculty advisors, building a high-performing, mission-driven team.

  • Develops and implements a faculty advisor competency framework focused on mentorship, communication, academic integration, and career navigation.
  • Promotes collaboration across academic departments to ensure seamless integration of advisement and onboarding efforts.
  • Supports professional growth for faculty advisors through organized training, peer learning groups, and recognition opportunities.
  • Continuously assesses faculty advisor outcomes and incorporates stakeholder feedback to enhance institutional support for faculty success.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Performs additional responsibilities in support of FAL and Academic Affairs - CAO initiatives, as delegated by the Executive Director.

Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field.

Experience

Required: Ten years of related experience in an academic or medical institution, to include five years of managerial/supervisory experience.  

Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.  Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

Preferred: Experience in academic operations, faculty affairs, and/or higher education administration.  Knowledge of faculty recruitment, appointment, promotion, and lifecycle management processes. 

Other Requirements: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
