Venesco, LLC is looking for an Inpatient Psychiatric Technicians to work the Dayshift for to support military members and their families at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA.


Inpatient Psychiatric Technician will work some weekends.

Specific Duties

1. Inpatient Care for Acute Psychiatric and Intermediate Units.

2. Assist in initial intake assessments and triage interviews.

3. Assist in counseling and orienting patients to the unit procedures and policies.

4. Perform ward searches, monitor use of dangerous items. Answer telephone calls and relay pertinent information to providers if required.

5. Assist in a variety of treatment modalities including but not limited to biofeedback, stress management, and group therapy.

6. Coordinate and perform routine training in prevention and management of assaultive behavior.

7. Assist with patient education.

8. Perform routine ward procedures for admission, discharges, and patient transfers.

9. Monitor patient safety be able to do physical restraint procedures such as applying manual and mechanical restraints.

10. Manage agitated patients; identify and report symptoms of homicidal or suicidal patients; perform line of sight one-on-one observations.

11. Understand the rules of confidentiality as applies to patient and health care provider during all aspects of care; instruct personnel in psychiatric patient rights.

12. Specific Duties - Psychiatric Technician (Outpatient). The HCW shall provide services within the scope of their competencies, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:

13. Demonstrate sound psychiatric theoretical and practical approaches in providing patient care.

14. Demonstrate a sound understanding and assist in the management of a therapeutic milieu, providing structure, social support, patient-education, safety and social skills training.

15. Develop a therapeutic relationship with psychiatric patients; observe patient progress during treatment.

16. Oversee, escort, and/or act as a therapeutic participant in patient activities in the outpatient psychiatric clinic and outpatient programs.

17. Provide care for patients utilizing proper infection control and safety techniques as planned and/or ordered.

18. Document per MTF policy and notify the appropriate chain-of-command of any abnormal or unusual findings in a timely manner.

19. Understand the rules of confidentiality as applies to patient and health care provider during all aspects of care; instruct personnel in psychiatric patient rights.



Requirements

1. Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program; or completion of an equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (www.psychtechs.org);

OR

Completion of education and experience as a corpsman in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving neuropsychiatric nursing and an Armed Forces or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of the developmentally disabled client.


2. A current unrestricted license to practice as an LVN in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands with a minimum of twelve (12) months experience within the preceding twenty-four (24) months in a psychiatric setting.


3. Possess at least twelve (12) months full time experience within the preceding twenty-four (24) months as either a Psychiatric Technician or Mental Health Technician or LPN.


4. Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to the HCW’s clinical skills. At least one letter must be from a physician or registered nurse and the second may be from a clinic or hospital administrator who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW who can attest to the HCW’s skills and abilities in the care of mental health patients.
