Midwest Food Bank (MFB) is a $526M non-profit organization with 10 divisions in the U.S. and 2 operations internationally. MFB operates with $87M in assets and an annual organizational operating budget of $15M to distribute over $526M in food and disaster relief boxes to 2,400 agencies.

JOB ROLE PURPOSE & SUMMARY:

Midwest Food Banks Indiana division is seeking an individual to fill the position of Operations Manager. This is a full-time salaried position. The position of Operations Manager at the Midwest Food Bank is a key role and vital to the continued growth and health of the Midwest Food Bank (MFB), Indiana Division. The individual in this position must possess strong warehousing, facilities, and logistics skills and be able to communicate effectively to volunteers and staff. The Operations Manager will be responsible for daily operations which include maintaining and organizing all daily activities at our distribution center and fleet management, driver onboarding and training, facilities maintenance and repair, record keeping, and working with volunteer groups. The Operations Manager must have a positive and upbeat approach as he communicates what God is doing at the Midwest Food Bank. The Operations Manager will report directly to the Executive Director. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Manage day to day operations at our two distribution centers including; sanitation, maintenance, and repair of all warehouse-related equipment and the building and grounds. Work with outside vendors and services to achieve optimal physical plant appearance and maintenance.
  • Function as the project manager for move into a future new location.
  • Work with the Director of Logistics to maintain trucking records and D.O.T. paperwork.
  • Create and manage a calendar including a proactive plan for maintenance and replacement of fleet and equipment.
  • Be available for the drivers when they have an issue out on the road.
  • Maintaining safety and sanitation record keeping which includes temperature logs on all cooler and freezer equipment, sanitation checklists, MSDS Sheets, and Lockout tag out procedures. Maintain correct OSHA logs and forklift training programs.
  • Work with Health Department and Fire Marshall to ensure that MFB INI Division is complaint with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Report final inventory numbers to Central Team and attend Inventory Meetings.
  • Actively participate in all events, scheduled annually to support our ministry.
  • Any other assigned tasks which are required to further the reach and growth of the Midwest Food Bank Ministry.
  • The Operations Manager will collect, approve, and turn over quotes and invoices to the Bookkeeper for approval and submission to the Bookkeeper for payment. All purchases of $50,000 or more require three quotes in support of the purchase.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 2-years relevant work experience, 5-years desired.
  • Project management and team leadership experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or related field.
  • Experience in leading volunteers, warehouse and/or trucking logistics desired.
  • Demonstrated ability creating a team-oriented environment and achieving results through others. 
  • Proven initiative, problem-solving, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent professional communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to use technology or learn computer skills, such as Office 365 and GeoTab.
  • Willingness to participate in training that may include development of professional skills, education on MFB’s policies and procedures, and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Standing, walking, and performing tasks in a warehouse and truck dock environment, with some periods of desk work involving computer use in an office setting.
  • Minimal travel in-state; out-of-state travel as needed; infrequent evening and weekend obligations.
  • May include exposure to noisy conditions, working conditions with dust, fumes, and weather.
  • Experience or willingness to acquire skills to operate forklifts, power equipment, and box trucks.
