Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): 
The student security analyst will have the unique opportunity to play a critical role in setting up and managing a student-led security lab and security operations center (SOC). This position will allow the student to gain hands-on experience in various cybersecurity domains, from firewall and systems administration to vulnerability management, threat hunting, and SOC operations, while contributing to the security of our campus data and systems.

Transferable Skills: 
The student analyst will learn how to use a variety of security tools that are industry-standard, known, and recognized by security practitioners.
Moreover, the student worker will acquire a robust set of transferable skills in analytical thinking, communication, project management, and teamwork—skills that would be valuable in many academic or professional pursuits.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
The students' first responsibility will be to administer the campus vulnerability management program. They will administer the vulnerability scanner, maintain scan schedules, and review scan reports. They will research vulnerabilities, understand their severity, prioritize and track their remediation.

Secondly, the student analyst will maintain a log aggregation and event management system. They will use this platform to analyze threat traffic and perform security investigations.

Thirdly, the student analysts will develop programs to engage students with cybersecurity information. They will design publications and execute events to raise awareness of cyberthreats that target students.

Finally, the student analysts will manage a security lab. This lab will serve as a safe and isolated environment to deploy and test security tools, such as honeypots and firewalls, without affecting campus production systems.

Wage Range: $11.75-12.75
