REBUILD SHOP MECHANIC
Job Summary:
The Rebuild Shop Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining mechanical equipment used in oil and gas production operations. This includes engines, compressors, pumping units, and related heavy equipment. The Rebuild Shop Mechanic ensures equipment is properly serviced, safe to operate, and functioning at optimal performance to support production activities.
Essential Duties
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using engine diagnostic equipment, computerized test systems, and calibration devices to determine required repairs.
- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts on engines, compressors, and other oilfield equipment.
- Dismantle, inspect, and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform routine preventative maintenance work on equipment and machinery.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools.
- Schedule and record regular maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, ensuring accurate service documentation.
- Read and interpret operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings to perform repairs accurately.
- Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure proper operation and efficiency.
- Assemble gear systems, align frames and gears, and fit bearings to adjust or repair mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
- Clean parts using grease solvents or immersion tanks.
- Adjust and calibrate industrial machinery using control and regulating devices.
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to confirm operational status and identify potential defects.
- Communicate with the Rebuild Shop Supervisor regarding complex issues, equipment needs, or parts requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment schematics.
- Skill in using diagnostic tools, measuring instruments, and hand/power tools.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and mechanical aptitude.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy parts or equipment frequently.
- Familiarity with oilfield equipment is preferred.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- No prior experience required; training provided.
- Must meet Driver Acceptability Profile requirements (driving position).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in a shop environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting.
- Frequent lifting (up to 30 lbs.) and occasional lifting (31–100 lbs.).
- Exposure to dust, grease, solvents, and varying temperatures.
- Use of PPE as required for safety compliance.
