MAJOR FUNCTION: Provides support and maintenance for Polk County employees’ personal computer equipment in coordination with the IT PC Support Team. Works alongside the Personal Computer Coordinator to install, diagnose, repair, and maintain PC hardware, while troubleshooting issues and providing timely end-user assistance.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Technical Support
- Install or upgrade personal computer hardware and software as necessary.
- Image new equipment and migrate user data as part of planned PC replacements.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, recommend solutions, and take corrective action as appropriate.
- Create, test, and distribute scripted software installations and patches.
- Create and maintain PC images for configuring new systems before deployment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot repairs on personal computer systems.
User Assistance
- Respond to service calls regarding hardware problems in person, by telephone, or via email.
- Provide ongoing assistance to end-users regarding hardware questions and operational needs.
- Deliver training and support services to personal computer users.
- Assist IT Service Desk as required.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Assist PC Coordinators with PC and laptop setups, imaging, and installations.
- Assist PC Coordinator and Network Analyst as required.
- Make arrangements for equipment installation upon delivery of hardware products.
- Participate in the development of standard operating procedures.
- Assist with development of PC hardware standards.
Administrative & Other Duties
- Complete work tickets within established timeframes.
- Operate laser printing systems for bulk printing.
- Update inventory of PCs and related supplies/materials.
- Stay informed through self-education on new and improved personal computer hardware and software.
- Ensure personal computer hardware and related equipment are maintained in good repair.
- Perform related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of:
- Standard personal computer hardware and related equipment used within the County.
- A wide variety of personal computer hardware.
Skills in:
- Communicating effectively with end-users, IT staff, and vendor support personnel.
- Installing various software packages on personal computers.
- Training others on PC-related tasks involving both hardware and software.
- Performing data entry and keying tasks accurately.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate from an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma. Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in end-user support that includes trouble-shooting and repair of personal computers in an environment managed by Microsoft Active Directory. Must possess knowledge of standard personal computer hardware and software including the ability to perform repair, problem determination, and resolution.
- A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of being a graduate of an accredited high school or possessing an acceptable equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL PREFERENCES
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in County Government, specifically with Polk County personal computer use and computer operations.
- Additional preference will be given for experience with the following systems:
KACE endpoint management
Internet secure web gateways
Compu trace
PowerShell scripting
Microsoft Group Policy
- Certifications preferred:
Must have a current and maintain CompTIA A+ certification
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must provide and utilize personal transportation in daily travel to remote sites to perform service calls. Must have a home telephone within thirty (30) days of employment, as employee is subject to call-out.
All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
