CED strives to pay a competitive wage in the industry and regional market. The pay range for this exempt position is $102.5k - $138.5k. JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Controls and Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for establishing the technical direction of automation systems and supporting various plant modernization initiatives, by way of advanced knowledge of industrial control systems and machine network architecture.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Write and debug PLC and robot logic, ensuring proper annotations and scalability. Conduct code validation to ensure a Right First-Time operational deployment.
- Create simple and visually organized HMI screens for automated equipment, ensuring adequate process feedback for ease of troubleshooting.
- Integrate equipment and SCADA architecture to collect, analyze, and trend real-time process data; develop and deploy reporting tools to modernize data exhibit recording.
- Investigate and implement new technologies and optimize existing capabilities to ensure production operations run in a safe and efficient manner.
- Facilitate initial equipment conceptual design, defining system requirements, process controls, budgetary costs, and lead time.
- Proficiency in evaluating and selecting PLCs, safety hardware, sensors, VFD, and servo drives in support of maintenance and overhaul initiatives.
- Design electrical and pneumatic schematics; layout industrial control panels compliant to UL508A/NFPA/NEC standards.
- Introduce automated equipment and processes to Operations teams; train respective disciplines in the maintenance and repair.
- Coordinate with internal teams to diagnose and troubleshoot facility line-down scenarios. Propose and implement actions to drive reduction in mean time to recovery (MTTR).
- Oversee functional operation of all automated equipment, act as liaison between Operations, Engineering, and Safety as needed.
- Ensure automation equipment is maintained, guarded, and operated in accordance with industry and company safety regulations.
- Identify areas in which the company must maintain adherence to NIST 800-171.
- Assist in implementing or upgrading solutions pertaining to NIST compliance.
- Develop and maintain documentation for process control systems and security procedures and provide training to operators and other personnel.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to Engineering counterparts, serving as a role-model for adhering to department and industry best practices.

- Special projects and other duties as assigned
- Ensure 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, Code of Conduct and U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
EDUCATION
Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 7 years’ progressive experience working with automation and robotic systems
- Advanced knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC, FactoryTalk, Cognex Vision, and Fanuc Robotics required.
- Proven experience developing, operating and maintaining security systems; strong understanding of NIST 800-171 is desirable
- Extensive knowledge of Cyber security for control systems. This should include but is not limited to: Extensive knowledge of IDS, Securing routers and switches; Accepted methods of performing security assessments
- Working knowledge and the application of Class 2 Division 1 Electrical Requirements for hazardous locations preferred
- In-depth knowledge of security protocols and principles; working knowledge of NIST 800-82 is preferred
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Lawful permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions)
- Must be eligible to possess explosive under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Self-motivated and capable of working under tight deadlines and prioritizing multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under minimal supervision

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, weighing up to 25 pounds [KM4] [PS5] occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Frequent use of computer.
