SUMMARY
The Foreman position is responsible for managing the mechanics, vendors, inspectors and yard crews engaged in the maintenance, repair and storage of trailers and containers. Responsibilities include preparation of trailers for customer delivery, modifications, preventative maintenance, emergency breakdowns, parts inventory, recording and maintaining documentation of work performed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- A Foreman ensures that workers maintain a high level of decorum and orderliness in the process of carrying out the job, at all times.
- Foreman makes it a priority to motivate and encourage workers to perform harder and always be at their best.
- Meets daily with sales and operations personnel to discuss filling upcoming orders and demands for equipment.
- Plans, schedules, and distributes work to mechanics.
- Uses repair orders to record all work performed and submits a list of equipment numbers completed each day.
- Writes estimates and purchase orders for repairs or modifications to trailers.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local government and company standards for reliability and safety.
- Oversees shipping/receiving responsibilities, including inspecting, storing, and retrieving inventory.
- Drives and spots equipment in yard.
- Orders parts and reports all costs of equipment added to fleet.
- Ensures that inspectors track all client bill backs.
- Logs hours spent on repairs.
- Responsible for the safe operation of shop and yard areas.
- Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the management and supervision of branch shop Technicians. May directly perform all or most activities listed above or accomplish activities through a staff of operations personnel which may include shop clerk, equipment inspectors, and truck drivers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A High School Diploma or general education degree (GED), or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in management and supervision is required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong work ethic and a desire to succeed.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Attention to detail and highly organized.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Communicates with a wide range of individuals from yard staff to upper management.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Must operate equipment such as phone, computer, copy machine, fax machine, fork truck, yard goat, hand tools, and refrigerated trailers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to working near moving mechanical parts, working in high precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
