Required Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Requires no specialized experience or specific expertise. One (1) year related experience and/or training preferred. Valid state driver’s license.

General Description: The Chief Custodian is responsible for leading a team of custodial staff so they can maintain the cleanliness of the building so that students and staff members can work and learn in an environment that is sanitary, clean, and orderly. This person must be able to lead a team successfully, coordinate schedules, and monitor the performance of custodial staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Professional Responsibilities
1. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
2. Ability to provide guidance and suggestions to members of a team.
3. Able to orally communicate effectively with all staff members.
4. Able to work independently and exercise initiative.
5. Able to lead a team of custodial staff.
6. Able to develop a partnership with building-level administration.
7. Punctual and regular attendance.
8. Willingness to learn new skills
9. Willingness to work flex hours during the night or day and/or over-time as needed
10. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with custodial staff and resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.
Cleaning and Sanitation
1. Ensure building(s) and grounds are clean and ready to fulfill the various needs of students and staff members.
2. Provide a safe environment for student and staff by eliminating hazards
3. Dispose of trash and/or waste materials
4. Respond to emergency calls for cleanup as needed
Maintenance
1. Ensure that the custodial staff is maintaining floors, walls, doors, windows, furniture and fixtures.
2. Report all incidents of damage or missing items to the head of Facilities.
3. Ensure safe conditions on walks, driveways, and parking areas at all times, and may include snow removal.
4. Assist in loading and unloading supplies, equipment from carriers as assigned.
5. Maintain applicable equipment and ensure it is inspected regularly to assure safety and compliance.
6. Maintain appropriate inventories of maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment
7. Required to maintain all grounds cutting of grass, weed control, maintain lining of all sports fields for fall/spring sports
8. Operate work vehicle with plow during snow removal.
Physical Demands
1. Continuous moderate effort or physical activity required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to frequently climb, crawl, and kneel. Frequently carry or move objects more than 25 pounds and occasionally move objects of up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
2. The employee will regularly work indoors and occasionally work outdoors, possibly in adverse weather conditions, in outdoor duties as assigned.

- District policies and protocols for safety and compliance of building, grounds, and equipment
- Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services for the school community/Facility Use
Skills
- Evaluate cleanup and maintenance needs and utilizing available resources to meet student needs
- Manage time and multiple tasks, prioritizing as needed to best serve students
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of factors in situations that may arise
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and the school community
- Operation of equipment, including, but not limited to buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, extractors, lawn equipment, snow removal equipment, etc.
Abilities
- Written and Oral Comprehension — The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Basic computer skills
