Position Summary
In collaboration with Oregon City Together (OCT) the Prevention Specialist provides evidence-based prevention and early intervention services to students in Oregon City School District (OCSD). This position works with core education programs and mental health services across the district to provide leadership in the assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of substance use prevention and intervention services within the school environment, coordinating these activities with community agencies and organizations. The Prevention Specialist works in cooperation with a variety of staff, including school counselors, social workers, behavioral health and wellness teams, nurses, and community coalition. This position works out of a central location with time divided between school sites.
Essential Functions
- Facilitate student-led wellness clubs at District middle schools to promote positive youth development, incorporating the utilization of the Know Your Neuro platform.
- Coordinate peer-to-peer campaigns addressing mental health, brain development, and the risks of substance use.
- Deliver evidence-based and/or evidence-informed programming (ie, the Blues Program) with a focus on early intervention for high-risk youth.
- Contribute to OCT’s parent education efforts, including outreach to culturally and linguistically diverse families.
- Support the coordination and delivery of training and collaborative efforts that build cultural responsiveness among staff and volunteers.
- Work closely with school and community leaders, mental health professionals, teachers, and nurses to coordinate prevention activities across school sites.
- Provide an evidence-based program for 5th graders.
- Support school staff in developing Social Emotional Learning for all students
- Maintain accurate documentation on a consistent basis.
- Complete and submit activity reports as needed for fulfillment of grant deliverables.
- May be required to work flexible or non-standard work hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Attend a minimum of one Oregon City Together coalition monthly meeting per quarter.

Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Oregon teaching or Personnel Services license, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Certified Prevention Specialist (or will receive certification within six months of hire)
- Three years experience working in substance use prevention.
- Successful experience working in a school environment.
- Successful experience working with youth affected by substance use.
- Experience working with at-risk youth, and/or lived experience.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law.
Preferred Qualifications
- Non-provisional TSPC license.
- Successful teaching experience.
- Bilingual Spanish-English.
- Strong lens on educational equity and serving the needs of diverse students.
This TEMPORARY position is 0.75 FTE and may increase to full time based on available funding.
Start date: As soon as possible through the end of the grant (two years).
191 work days per fiscal year.
Annual salary listed will be adjusted based on start date and remaining workdays in the fiscal year.
