It’s important to know that:
- Flight dispatching impacts flight success: You play a vital role in making sure flights take off safely and on time by coordinating with pilots, monitoring flight conditions and managing operational control.
- Operations move quickly: Expect a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment due to changing operations.
- Collaboration is essential—but so is independence: You’ll mostly work alone, but you will always have your team and supervisor available for your assistance.
Key duties:
- Share responsibility with pilots for flight safety under a Type A Operational Control System.
- Develop, review, authorize, and revise Operational Flight Plans alongside the Pilot In Command.
- Conduct Operational Flight Watch, assess safety-impacting changes, and communicate updates to pilots.
- Analyze operational conditions affecting flight performance, including weather, facilities, and Air Traffic Control.
- Ensure compliance with Aircraft Operating Manual, Minimum Equipment List, Flight Dispatch Manual, and regulations.
- Provide pilots with real-time updates necessary for safe flight operations.
- Maintain expertise in airports, runways, airways, and navigational aids for assigned areas, including the Flight
- Dispatch Manual, Flight Operations Manual and Jeppesen Enroute and Airport Charts.
- Communicate flight plan requirements to Air Traffic Control Services.
- Monitor and provide flight crews with up-to-date operational field condition reports.
- Collaborate with Chief Duty Dispatcher and System Operations Control on flight operations and incident management.
- Perform duties prioritizing safety, compliance, and effective communication.
- Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
- Air Canada Flight Dispatchers are required to be qualified in accordance with CAR 705 and CASS 725;
- Must be at least 21 years of age;
- Must Have Transport Canada exams FDOPS and FDMETS completed and active;
- Hold a Restricted Operator Certificate - Aeronautical (ROC-A);
- Have a current valid passport;
- Good decision-making ability in high pressure situations;
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills;
- Demonstrated ability to keep and monitor records effectively;
- Capable of working under pressure without close supervision;
- Experience with conflict resolution and problem solving;
- Good communication skills, verbal and written;
- Proficiency with PC (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint an asset;
- Post secondary education is an asset;
- Previous airline operational experience, an asset.
- Candidates must be available for shift work in a 24/7 operational environment, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays;
- Ability to meet Air Canada medical standards through a medical examination;
