The Sample Management Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support daily operations of the laboratory. Duties include completing the daily operations of the receiving department and sample maintenance and disposal. This position reports to the Laboratory Manager:


· Fulfills the receiving department daily operations including unboxing and logging of customer samples, preparing samples for testing, and interfacing with customers on test request form (TRF) issues. 

· Contacting clients by email or phone in a professional manner for answers to any discrepancies discovered during the logging process, for additional information needed, for any out of temperature range issues, or for sample packaging issues.

· Understanding the need of maintaining sample suitability and the need for inspection of packaging upon receipt into the department. 

· Prepares samples for testing in a variety of ways to include grinding, blending, or compositing. 

· Maintaining standard operating procedures of receiving for the Chemistry Departments and the sample retention areas.

· Performs quality checks of test request forms that were entered and completed to ensure proper tests are being performed, that accurate matrix information was chosen, and client requests are covered for each request.

· Monitors the inventory levels for receiving supplies and addresses low inventory levels in a timely manner.

· Knowledge of the Sage system for generating PO numbers.

· Knowledgeable of LIMS system.

· Maintain organization and cleanliness of the receiving area and sample storage areas.

· Dispose of samples appropriately after their specific retention times. 

· Responsible for proper shipment of outgoing samples and completion of outsource documents. 

· Maintains a safe and secure working environment, complies with all company policies and procedures on safety and ethical conduct.

· Attention to detail and good recall is critical in all duties and activities.

· Follows quality systems policies and completes required documentation.

· Perform duties under the general supervision of the Cereal Chemistry Lab Manager.

Requirements

    

Indoors temperature-controlled office/laboratory environment; the use of hearing protection may be required at times, along with other personal protective equipment as necessary.


This position meets the medium strength level published by the Occupational Requirements Survey. 


Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • Experience in a laboratory environment (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Customer Service Skills: Basic (Required) Requires the use of telephones, paging system, PC, fax, copying and other office machines and equipment.
  • Other: Requires the use of laboratory equipment including balances, pH meter, thermometers, laboratory grinder, and other sample preparation equipment.
