Description
Being a Construction Project Manager at Momentum means you play a critical role in bringing our gyms to life. From site selection through lease negotiation, design, and construction, you will coordinate with architects, contractors, and our climbing wall builder, Walltopia, to make sure projects are completed on time and on budget. This role blends hands-on site management with strategic oversight, giving you the chance to shape the future of Momentum’s facilities and ensure every new gym meets our high standards.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning and Development
- Partner with leadership in evaluating new sites and providing input during the site selection process.
- Participate in lease negotiations to evaluate construction-related considerations and potential risks.
- Assist in selecting and engaging architects and other key project partners.
- Develop early-stage project timelines, budgets, and risk assessments.
Leadership and Vendor Management
- Serve as the primary contact between Momentum, architects, general contractors, and Walltopia.
- Hold vendors and partners accountable to timelines and deliverables in a professional and respectful manner.
- Anticipate project risks, recommend solutions, and adjust plans as needed to keep projects on track.
- Report directly to the CEO, providing regular project updates and milestone reporting.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Develop and manage detailed project schedules and budgets.
- Track progress and maintain documentation for all phases of each project.
- Provide weekly written reports and biweekly status calls with Momentum leadership.
- Maintain organized project files, contracts, and vendor communications.
Operations and Site Oversight
- Conduct recurring site visits to perform quality assurance and quality control checks at each stage of construction to ensure work meets specifications and Momentum’s standards.
- Attend key milestones in person, including demo start, construction kick-off, Walltopia installation, and pre-opening inspections.
- Coordinate with Walltopia for international shipping and installation of climbing walls, holds, and furniture.
- Support project close-out with final inspections, punch lists, and turnover to gym operations.
Procurement
- Review and provide pre-approval for material orders to confirm alignment with project drawings, specifications, and design intent.
- Lead procurement of bid processes, including identifying, soliciting, and evaluating proposals from contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and adherence to project timelines.
- Oversee and coordinate the purchase and delivery of materials, ensuring timely arrival and proper handling at job sites.
Permitting and Compliance
- Oversee code compliance, permitting, and the regulatory requirements process with municipalities, consultants, and contractors to secure necessary approvals.
- Manage occupancy permit processes to ensure gyms are ready for timely openings.
- Ensure all project activities comply with Momentum safety standards and applicable codes.
- Work with contractors and vendors to monitor compliance with risk management protocols.
- Identify and communicate safety or compliance issues promptly.

Requirements
Experience, Skills, and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of commercial construction project management experience.
- Proven track record of managing multi-vendor projects and delivering on-time openings.
- Experience working with international vendors or logistics preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet).
Hours and Availability
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Position is based out of Momentum’s corporate office in Holladay, Utah, or may be based in another state where Momentum has an established presence (currently Utah and Texas).
- Extensive travel required to construction sites. Current projects are in Texas, so significant time on site in Houston and San Antonio should be expected.
- During active construction, weekly on-site presence is required, with additional visits for milestones or issue resolution.
- Future projects may require regular travel to other states as new gyms are developed.

Environmental and Physical Demands
- Spend extended periods working at a computer, participating in meetings, and managing project documentation.
- Travel regularly to construction sites, which may include driving or flying to out-of-state locations.
- Move through active construction sites that may involve walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs or ladders, and navigating areas with dust, noise, and construction equipment.
- Stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, crouch, or reach as needed to observe work, inspect progress, or access various areas of a project site.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds (such as plans, tools, or equipment) in the course of site inspections.
- Maintain visual acuity to read project plans, review detailed drawings, and identify construction details or potential safety issues.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with architects, contractors, vendors, and Momentum leadership.
- Respond promptly to safety issues or emergencies on-site, which may require mobility and quick decision-making.
