The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire the position of Manager, Marketing and Communications. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, with direction from the VP, Strategy and External Relations, this position is responsible for building, managing, and optimizing the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre’s (CTCC) marketing and communications strategy that elevates the brand, engages CTCC’s audiences and external communities, managing internal communications, and supporting the organization’s strategic objectives. This position will have direct reports and help manage the day-to-day activities of the team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing
- Collaborate with colleagues and partners to strategize, develop, and implement effective marketing and communication initiatives to support CTCC’s goals and objectives, including digital and print marketing.
- Champion customer and content management platform.
- Execute marketing budget and campaign/advertising allocations.
- Direct, supervise and coach Communications and Social Media Specialist.
- Manage digital marketing brand. Develop and maintain the CTCC’s voice and tone for digital and print materials.
- Manage and coordinate creative materials, including ads for social media, websites, landing pages, brochures, photography, videos, and various print projects.
- Monitor trends and audience behaviour to enhance the effectiveness of digital channels and communications.
- Working closely with the sales team, managing and executing targeted marketing campaigns, brand activations and client appreciation initiatives, to execute.
- Provide design support for digital and print projects.
- Cultivate strong relationships across the organization and with industry and media partners, community members, influencers and content creators, agencies, the CTCC partners and suppliers.
- Manage and maintain digital content for the CTCC’s projects.
- Work with the Senior Manager, Communications & External Relations in community engagement programs and client, partners, and interested parties’ special initiatives.
- Work with agencies and third-party contracted service companies on asset and work development.
- Work with the Senior Manager, Communications & External Relations and industry partners as needed for joint marketing activities.
Internal Communications
- Develop internal communications plans for various organizational initiatives.
- Manage internal communications through a robust employee newsletter.
- Provide internal content creation and editing services to ensure all communications, including organization wide e-mails, are appropriate and on brand (both in grammar, content and design).
- Provide communications support for employee town halls and any other HR initiatives as needed.
External Communications
- Supports the organization’s issue management team in developing clear, effective, timely communications to address issues proactively.
- Support the creation of strategic communication plans for the CTCC external initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategic communication and content strategy via social media, emails, the CTCC blog, and website that builds purposeful connections, tells the CTCC story and reflects the brand personality.
- Build and execute digital media strategy and provide managerial support to the Communications and Social Media Specialist.
- Oversee all social media communications, including asset creation, engagement, and optimization.
- Oversee annual content calendar outlining all marketing and communication initiatives.
- Maintain website and update content as needed.
- Support the Senior Manager, Communications & External Relations with media relations projects as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Displays the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in a written and visual format.
- Practices superior time management.
- Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary (i.e., content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management).
- Ability to pick up new tools quickly.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the principles of SEO, including keyword research and Google Analytics.
- Possesses functional knowledge and/or experience with WordPress.
- Design experience using Adobe Creative Suites and Canva.
- Fluid knowledge in managing customer and content management platforms.
- Demonstrates winning Social Customer Service techniques such as empathy, patience, advocacy, and conflict resolution.
- Possesses the ability to identify potential negative or crises and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues.

Education
- A degree in marketing, communications or a similar field is welcomed but not required with relevant work experience.
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in marketing and communications and 2-3 years in a management position leading a team.
- Experience managing corporate digital marketing strategies, advertising and communication efforts.
